Think you know about slavery? You don't.

I first posted this back in July 2015 but given the nonsense transpiring now I felt compelled to once again review the facts about slavery. Slavery was NOT created in the colonies. It was imported to the colonies from Africa. The Dutch went to Africa originally seeking gold and were paid in gold for transporting African slaves from one African port to another for black African slave owners. It's all here and a lot of it will be uncomfortable to many.

west africa slave trade

Certain things tend to set off triggers in you. For me it was Don Lemon- when he joined the flag-damning freaking idiot liberal lemmings in their bloodlust considering the removal of the Jefferson memorial:

CNN's Don Lemon on Tuesday hinted that there will come a day when the United States will have to "rethink" tributes such as the Jefferson Memorial. After a contentious segment with Ben Jones, in which the former Congressman defended the Confederate flag, Legal View host Ashley Banfield brought up the author of the Declaration of Independence.   She reminded, "There is a monument of him in the capital city of the United States. No one ever asked for that to come down." At first, Lemon asserted that the comparison was not "equal" and that Jefferson "was a part of the entire United States." He then added, "There may come a day when we may want to rethink Jefferson, I don't if we should do that. But when we get to that point, I'll be happy to partake in that particular discussion."
And so will I.

I'd already warned about this and I got to watch it take place. With each passing day liberals become more and more like ISIS- seeking to purge history of anything they deem politically incorrect according to THEIR version of politically correct history. Let's go back and look at how slavery came to be. Here are some hard facts.

Thomas Jefferson had nothing but contempt for slavery:

Thomas Jefferson was a consistent opponent of slavery his whole life. Calling it a “moral depravity” and a “hideous blot,” he believed that slavery presented the greatest threat to the survival of the new American nation. Jefferson also thought that slavery was contrary to the laws of nature, which decreed that everyone had a right to personal liberty. These views were radical in a world where unfree labor was the norm.   At the time of the American Revolution, Jefferson was actively involved in legislation that he hoped would result in slavery’s abolition. In 1778, he drafted a Virginia law that prohibited the importation of enslaved Africans. In 1784, he proposed an ordinance that would ban slavery in the Northwest territories. But Jefferson always maintained that the decision to emancipate slaves would have to be part of a democratic process; abolition would be stymied until slaveowners consented to free their human property together in a large-scale act of emancipation. To Jefferson, it was anti-democratic and contrary to the principles of the American Revolution for the federal government to enact abolition or for only a few planters to free their slaves.
But don't blame Jefferson for slavery. Don't blame the Founding Fathers for slavery. They didn't invent slavery, although MSNBC and CNN would have you believe they did.

Blame the Sumerians.

Slavery wasn't invented in Africa. It's probably a Mesopotamian concept, practiced in Sumeria for millennia before it was seen in Africa. Slavery has long been a staple of Islam and Muslim countries. Islam is also indelibly intertwined with African slavery.

Black Africans were transported to the Islamic empire across the Sahara to Morocco and Tunisia from West Africa, from Chad to Libya, along the Nile from East Africa, and up the coast of East Africa to the Persian Gulf. This trade had been well entrenched for over 600 years before Europeans arrived, and had driven the rapid expansion of Islam across North Africa.   By the time of the Ottoman Empire, the majority of slaves were obtained by raiding in Africa. Russian expansion had put an end to the source of "exceptionally beautiful" female and "brave" male slaves from the Caucasians -- the women were highly prised in the harem, the men in the military. The great trade networks across north Africa were as much to do with the safe transportation of slaves as other goods. An analysis of prices at various slave markets shows that eunuchs fetched higher prices than other males, encouraging the castration of slaves before export.
In the 1430's Portugese explorers came sailing down the West coast of Africa looking to trade not for slaves, but for gold (Hence, the Gold Coast). Slavery was well entrenched in Africa by then. The Portuguese discovered they could obtain their desired gold by transporting slaves from one part of Africa to another- from one African slave owner to another. And:
Muslim merchants had an insatiable appetite for slaves, which were used as porters on the trans-Saharan routes (with a high mortality rate), and for sale in the Islamic Empire.
In contrast to the popular notions of TV's Kunta Kinte and Hollywood, most of the Africans who were enslaved came from the interior of Africa where Europeans dared not venture:
A slave's journey to a life of servitude often began in the interior of Africa with his or her capture as a prize of war, as tribute given by a weak tribal state to a more powerful one, or by outright kidnapping by local traders. European slave traders rarely ventured beyond Africa's coastal regions. The African interior was riddled with disease, the natives were often hostile and the land uncharted. The Europeans preferred to stay in the coastal region and have the natives bring the slaves to them.
Dr. Alexander Falconbridge described how it went down (Ibid):
. . . During my stay on the coast of Africa, I was an eye-witness of the following transaction: a black trader invited a Negro, who resided a little way up the country, to come and see him. After the entertainment was over, the trader proposed to his guest, to treat him with a sight of one of the ships lying in the river. The unsuspicious countryman readily consented, and accompanied the trader in a canoe to the side of the ship, which he viewed with pleasure and astonishment. While he was thus employed, some black traders on board, who appeared to be in the secret, leaped into the canoe, seized the unfortunate man, and dragging him into the ship, immediately sold him.
More about the supply of slaves to the traders:
It is important to mention, however, that the supply of slaves to the Gold Coast was entirely in African hands. Although powerful traditional chiefs, such as the rulers of Asante, Fante, and Ahanta, were known to have engaged in the slave trade, individual African merchants such as John Kabes, John Konny, Thomas Ewusi, and a broker known only as Noi commanded large bands of armed men, many of them slaves, and engaged in various forms of commercial activities with the Europeans on the coast.
It is a fact that slavery was long endemic in Africa at the beginning of the Transatlantic slave trade and it was employed by black Africans. What about in the US? Did free black men in the US ever own slaves?

You betcha. Let's turn to our old friend Henry Louis Gates, Jr.

One of the most vexing questions in African-American history is whether free African Americans themselves owned slaves. The short answer to this question, as you might suspect, is yes, of course; some free black people in this country bought and sold other black people, and did so at least since 1654, continuing to do so right through the Civil War.
(H/T retire05)

And they weren't really happy about having to part with them:

When New Orleans fell in late April 1862 to the Union, about 10 percent of these men, not missing a beat, now formed the Native Guard/Corps d'Afrique to defend the Union. Joel A. Rogers noted this phenomenon in his 100 Amazing Facts: "The Negro slave-holders, like the white ones, fought to keep their chattels in the Civil War." Rogers also notes that some black men, including those in New Orleans at the outbreak of the War, "fought to perpetuate slavery."
So for two hundred years blacks in the colonies and later the US owned black slaves. And it wasn't just black men:

Only 5% of African slaves were sold to the American colonies. The vast majority went to Brazil and the Caribbean.

I don’t think you are old enough or broad enough in your history of slavery. Slavery has been found in every society that left any written language behind. And for many who didn’t, slavery was talked about by those who discovered them. The Aztecs had slaves, the Chinese had slaves. Karl Marx claims that slavery was the next evolutionary societal step after communal family living. As one tribe or family conquered or took in people from outside, they were generally slaves, women especially.

We are so uppity about slavery now. But the fact is, if you have an IQ above 110 you are certainly an antecedent of a slave owner. And if your IQ is less then you are only likely to be related to a slave owner. And just as likely to be the long lost relative of a slave as well. And this goes for Africans, Irish, American Indians and virtually all people alive today. Slavery is very old. And its very natural. We just don’t like it now.

I just finished reading “Peter the Great,” and was surprised to learn about the magnitude of the Ottoman slave raids into the Ukraine. An old book (originally pubished in 1980), but reading it provides insight into the politics of the early 1700s.

It was white Christians who came close to eliminating slavery.

It has been black men and Muslims who are advancing slavery today.

Thanks for posting this. I try to post something about the thousands of blacks who owned slaves whenever reparations come up but it never gets any traction.
The number of blacks who descended from black slave owners has to be huge, and should not be included in reparations other than to help pay for it.

Or, better yet, screw reparations.

As Aristotle said: “Humanity is divided into two, the Master and the Slave.” And all races, without exception, were on both sides of that divide.

The greatest injustice, when it comes to the social and historical perspective of slavery, is how it’s taught. Due to a concerted and successful effort on the Left, that has thoroughly saturated our MSM and academia; the only people who should be given the greatest credit in ending the practice, are instead, the only ones being held solely responsible for it.

I’m a direct descendant of a White Italian officer (Red Shirt Captain under Gen. Garibaldi during the Italian Wars for Unification, i.e., The Risorgimento) who came to America after the Emancipation Proclamation, for the sole purpose of fighting to free Blacks from slavery, and he led a Black regiment (39th U.S.C.T.) at the battles of Petersburg (including the Battle of the Crater) and who was killed after the Battle of Ft. Fisher in 1865, when, due to the greed and incredible stupidity of several of his soldiers (who slipped away and entered the Fort’s powder magazine with lit open torches while looking for Confederate loot) caused a massive explosion that killed over 200 Union Soldiers, including my ancestor, who were participating in a victory parade above.

It was White Western Civilization and the White created Abolitionist Movement in Europe, spurred on by a White Western Christian philosophy within the contemporary social politics of the basic rights of Man (i.e. life, liberty, and self-determination), that was the first catalyst to end slavery in most of the world, with full emancipation here in America, at the cost of over 600,000 mostly White men and boys, buried in the ground. Such was the cost of Black Freedom. The butcher’s bill paid in MY White ancestor’s blood.

Like most Whites, there are no slave skeletons in my ancestors’ closets (except those who were slaves themselves), no one who discriminated, or did “terrible things” to Blacks. Just like most of us, a lot of poor hardworking forefathers; from abolitionist soldiers, and others who were child slave laborers, to others who had the “White Privilege” of being cannon fodder in Europe’s many wars.

The vast majority of Whites living in the US today have no ancestors who ever owned a Black slave, nor did the vast majority of Whites during the time when slavery existed in some parts of the US. In fact, only 1 in 7 Southern Whites owned a slave. But one White man died for every 6 Black slaves that were freed in the Civil War. And let’s not ignore the fact that today Black slavery is still practiced in parts of Africa with little notice from the MSM, and little to no open outrage from those Liberals and Blacks who use the past to incite racial guilt and animosity.

That fact is ignored, unappreciated, and covered up by the Left and the many Blacks who are being taught and conditioned to hate Whites. The vast majority of Black slaves in the world were enslaved by non-Whites, non-Christians; and the vast majority of Black slaves were shipped to non-American shores. Yet they have no problem with the non-Whites races, religions, and nations that enslaved their ancestors.

Further, the Blacks who feign hysterical levels of outrage that their ancestors were once slaves in America, show no real outrage that fellow Blacks are still being enslaved in parts of Africa today by Muslims.

If my ancestor could make the long, dangerous journey across the Atlantic Ocean from Italy to the US on a wooden sailing ship, to come here to fight to free Black slaves. Surely these same outraged and angry American Blacks could make a comfortable Airline ride back to Africa to do the same.

Yet I see no attempts or even the slightest interest of Blacks angry about America’s relatively short history of slavery (in SOME parts of her territory), to form private regiments of ‘Black Freedom Fighters’, and go back to their Motherland to fight to free Black slaves and end Blacks slavery there today.

Apparently they’re too comfortable complaining about White people. As their slavery outrage only extends to when Whites enslaved Blacks, just like ‘Black Lives Matter’ only when a Black is killed by a White cop, not fellow Blacks.

Slavery was invented when agriculture was invented.

Raising crops is hard work, and the first thought is to make someone else do the hard, sweaty work.

Life expectancy for slaves in North America versus Africa

The concept of freedom in the Congo or Ghana where u lived and existed at the whim of the chjef

It’s all so stupid

Just another excuse for blacks to never be held to account and diminish white political power

This is fiction, but there may be reality behind it:

“The Chain of Death Raid”

“The aftermath of a raid on a German column headed for a vital oasis results in both Troy and Dietrich being captured by Arab slave-traders. Joined at the wrist by a length of heavy chain, they soon escape, only to find themselves lost in the desert and miles from help. Without food, water or shelter, the two bitter enemies have no choice but to rely on each other or face certain death under a blazing sun.”
