I’d like a Beretta 21A
with a threaded Barrel.
For those “Quiet Moments.”
It’s a Pocket Pistol for You.

22s are great for practice and target shooting. I’ve got several and really like shooting them.
Project Appleseed does a great job to showing how proper training with a 22 rifle carries right over to larger caliber rifles.

But 22 is not a wise carry caliber. Not to stake your life on.

Ruger SR22 ... the most reliable with the range of 22lr ammo. Load CCI Velocitors in it, or at the least CCI mini-mags. I am approaching 1000 rounds through mine and have yet to have a stoppage attributed to the gun. The 22lr ammo, not so much. I have the model with the threaded barrel.

.22 is not sufficient for self defense.
It’s great for target practice, I recommend a Browning Buckmark.

Ruger SR-22 is ideal for concealed carry. Use CCI Mini-Mag 36 grain hollow points for self defense.

The SR-22 also makes for a decent plinking pistol, but the Ruger Mark IV 22/45 is a much better plinker. Not much for carry, however, unless you open carry in an outside of the waistband holster.

My son has a Ruger 22 pistol and it’s a nice piece.

I know that technically for self defense a 22 does not have a lot of potential to stop someone, but it’s better to have something you can and will use than nothing.

And besides, put enough holes in someone and you’re increasing your likelihood of hitting something that could do some damage.

An artery nicked by a 22 can kill just as dead as one nicked by a larger caliber.

I guess a Ruger Mark IV with 10” barrel and a 3X scope is out of the question?

Just got a Phoenix Arms HP22A. Fits in a back levi pocket. It has a hammer and that was a requirement for me. It is very much like a mini 1911. It is heavy though. Has dual safeties, pick the one you want. I haven’t got a chance to shoot it yet. I’m gunsmithing an old Sterling arms 302 right now. I’m not a fan of plastic guns.

When you practice with your Rugar SR22 try the ‘milk jugs at ten yards’ drill, ‘cause you are gonna want to make hedshots with such a small caliber. And if you have to pull the wepon for closer quarters, direct your rounds to the lower pelvic region ... lots of large blood vessels and a bladder down there, which when hit with any caliber is so very exquisitely painful and will drop any sized man of ghettopotamus. Once on the ground a dispatching shot is easier to make.

The .22 is not a good carry gun. Is there a reason you’ve settled on that caliber? Virtually no expert would recommend a .22 as a carry gun. If you’re looking for small, look at the Ruger LCP Max. .380 with a 10 round magazine. Still small enough for pocket carry. .380 is as small as I’d ever go for a defensive pistol. Right now I carry a Glock 23, which fires a .40 S&W round, but I’m in the process of transitioning to a 9mm Glock 43X MOS. While that’s still a belt holster pistol, I’m trading in my Ruger LCP (6+1) for the Ruger LCP Max, which is 10+1.
