I'm always unimpressed with famous sights. I was adverse to the Lincoln Memorial when I went by it in 2011, because of the Railroad Lawyer who was made into a Greek God. I walked up to it, but I didn't go in. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington nostalgia is enough for me, but "the real thing" is a disappointment.
I spent a late night walking around D.C. I was unimpressed with how unfriendly to people of other races the lower-level workers are, though there were still independent taxi drivers who were real people whose livelihoods, however, were under threat of a D.C. Councilman to throw them out for Yellow Cabs.
As I walked past the various govt. departments at 2 AM, it seemed to me that a mythology could develop: When Khrushchev was visiting the U.S., after banging his shoe on a desk at the U.N., he wasn't allowed to visit Disneyland, but he saw it from the air.
The mythology is that the architecture of D.C. began to change organically after this historical event, into a shabby little imitation of the quaint fakery of Disneyland. It has a tawdry, fairy-land look late at night when it's empty.
The unconcern for the fate of the ordinary people who have been rounded up in the Stalinist purge since January 6, gives weight to this fantasy, of Stalinist Disneyland D.C.
That's a fact Jack ...
That you lived to tell about it is a miracle unto iteself.................
Yes, it is. I can testify to that.................

"I'll get you my pretty...."
The only time to visit The Wall is at 2 AM. I was there once in the morning and saw the Marines polishing their brass emblem embedded in the walk. Apparently, they double time up from 8th & I, in their utilities, do the job and run back. They were the only branch who did that. Semper Fidelis.
I was last in DC in November 2001. Just two months after 9/11. I drove by the Pentagon and saw the huge hole where terrorists had flown a plane into it. I did the usual touristy things and I’m glad I did. Since nowadays Washington DC as it used to be, as it should be, is gone forever.
Back in the 1980s I had cousins that lived in London. They wanted us to please come over. But at that time me and Mrs. R2 were busy raising babies and we had no money. So I never got to see London and Europe. And of course now I never will see it as it used to be, as it should be.
In 2000 I took the wife and kids to Disney World. I’m very glad I did that too. 21 years ago it was still reasonably affordable and not so perverse and corrupted as it is now.
I took my 2 daughters to many great US and world destinations and I’m so glad we did because I wouldn’t want them off traveling anywhere anymore.
I was discussing Disneyland a while back with someone else here. I mentioned that if ever I visit the Los Angeles/Anaheim area, I’d soon go to Knott’s Berry Farm well before Disneyland.
The only thing worth seeing in Anaheim is Shohei Ohtani.
Disneyland is way to expensive, tickets are over 100 per person plus food, Knotts us much cheaper parking is easy and food is reasonable. Otani is a big plus too
Last time I was in D.C. was 2009, a little get together with Jim Robinson, Allan West, Andrew Wilcow and about 1.5 million of my closest friends. I don’t need to every go back.
Back in the 80’s I convinced my parents to let me use the money my Grandmother had set aside for my wedding to go visit family in Europe.
I spent time listening to relatives in Germany described what life was like under Nazi rule. Went to East Berlin.
Spent time with family in the Marxist Utopia of Yugoslavia. (That was a a shocker)
A few years later, when the wall was coming down, went back to Germany and spent an afternoon at the Brandenburg gate. I watched families being reunited for the first time in almost 30 years. I think I may have been crying harder than they were. I’ve got a piece of the wall in my living room.
Needless to say according to Churchill I have no heart.
Never have voted for a Rat.
