Dozens of people have died in Canada amid an unprecedented heatwave that has smashed temperature records.
Police in the Vancouver area have responded to more than 230 sudden deaths within 4 days (Friday-Monday), about 100 more than the average for a four-day period. As of 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, officers had responded to 20 sudden death calls that day alone. Most were elderly or had underlying health conditions, with heat often a contributing factor.
Canada broke its temperature record for a third straight day on Tuesday – 49.6°C (121.3°F) in Lytton, British Columbia.
The US north-west has also seen record highs – and a number of fatalities.

It’s killing more people than the COVID!
Biden says they need to spend more money to fight Global Warming but where do you spend money to Kill Summer ? It’s hot in the West but it’s Freezing in the East , yep it’s just Weather
121 in BC.
230 dead.
Truly sad.
Hopefully they were wearing their masks.
Hmmm. What is canaDUHs current masking policy? Guess the temps NEVER were this high before ‘recorded’ history huh? You know in the millons of years this rock has been ‘circling back’. :-}
Before you decide to come running to Texas, just remember that you just got a taste of Texas in the summer.
I've lived here over 30 years and have never seen it get 121 degrees.
That is almost unbelievable!
Shouldn’t a sustained 120 degrees denature viral proteins to a point where the province is Covid free?
We need to wall off the west coast.
I remember 113 when I lived in Midland Tx
It’s been hellish for my family here in British Columbia. Now I know how people in the USA, like Arizona, feel in the summer. Thank God we have our pool.
I believe we are in the phase where masking is optional HOWEVER most stores are still requiring a mask. Very Annoying.
Our forecast in North Texas calls for 8-10 days of rain, then summer will kick in. July and August, and into mid-September are the worst months of the year.
Before moving to North Texas 25 years ago, I lived in El Paso for 15. I do recall one summer where temps were above 110 for two weeks straight. The rest of the time, they were between 100 and 109.
Utter lunacy. Hope you are freed up soon.
Glad to hear you have the pool. How about AC? We will be around 90 today in south TX . Time for a neighborhood pool party. Best wishes.
No AC. We really want to install a heat pump but the costs are outrageous. Anywhere from 10,000 to 17,000. We did go to the movie theater and watched a mostly terrible movie (F9) but at least we were cool.
2003 European heatwave killed tens of thousands.
Mostly elderly.
And lefties want to take away their air conditioning.
