Over the past several years, I’ve watched WorldCon repeatedly implode.
Well, not exactly. It imploded in 2018 in a very spectacular way. WorldCon 2019 didn’t exactly implode, but then again, Jeanette Ng’s “acceptance” speech of the John W. Campbell award (now renamed “Astounding”) was her long awaited stab at a long-dead science fiction icon which spawned more of her displeasure at the “stale, pale, male crowd,” as well as a long list of other award renamings. The irony is that Ng also won a “Best Related Work” Hugo for 2020 because she complained about Campbell the year before. A rant wins you a Hugo. Who’d have thought.
As if things couldn’t get any worse, famed writer George R.R. Martin was accused of racism at the totally tanked WorldCon 2020. On top of that, the World Fantasy Con in the same year wrought its own disasters. If you read those blog posts, you’ll see the collection of “usual suspects” who complain about everything and anything that’s even a hair out of place compared to their high and mighty expectations.
Now we come to this, which I found online at Locus Magazine, a small article called Hugo Administration Team Resigns.

Wow... I had no idea. I’ve been out of the loop for years, re-reading my old stuff...tried the new stuff, didn’t like it. I am old, I guess.
Try Doug Dandridge and Christopher Nuttall. I’ve enjoyed a lot of their stuff.
I’ve started reading classic scifi again — and of course I never stopped reading Bradbury! I wouldn’t waste a dime or time on modern woke writers.
This hatred of dead white males in conventions (writers and artists) has been going on for over a decade.
And it isn’t limited to complaints about their writing, etc. they hate them for being and for succeeding.
Ray Bradbury didn’t seem like a guy who could hate anyone but he would express displeasure at these firemen, just as he called out Michael Moore for being a “perfect a&&hole” who hijacked the title of his book and used it to bash America.
90% of everything is crud
Ellison hasn’t passed yet
Bradbury learned from reading daily in the library.
Today’s crowd read Wikipedia at home. On a phone.
Sorry to tell you that Harlan Ellison died at his home in Los Angeles the morning of June 28, 2018. Age 84.
Thanks for the correction. I completely missed that one and am now reading what a friend wrote at the time of his passing.
“If you aren’t female you need not apply”
Ha. You better be a POC, tranny, 8 gender, whatever.
Are you saying Larry Niven (not his heirs) was “woke”?
That would devastate me! Like him better than the classics.
If you click on my name I give briefs comments on some of my favorite science fiction—novels and short stories.
John C. Wright is good stuff.
Freegards
Asimovs mag went to hell the instant he was gone I dropped my years long subscription immediately after. A Poul Anderson or Bob Heinlein would never have gotten a single story published in todays woke fascism.
Agreed. My limit is also around the early 1990’s (Pournelle’s series on the Codominimum finished about then). Beyond that, it became very “culturally relevant”. Same for Fantasy as well. I find the older works to be much more enjoyable and (frankly) much less sexually explicit.
Glory Road.
Starship Troopers.
This is why the Dragon Awards came into being.
No. Never. I meant the opposite. Actually he and Jerry Pournelle laughed about being libertarians always mistaken for conservatives but they'll take it.
