Oh the prime directive was the worst part of Star Trek.

The Prime directive was for Kirk to Boink all the hot aliens in the universe

“Yep I remember the episode. The Yangs had the American flag and the US Constitution, and Kirk educated them about what the constitution means.”
Can you imagine a scene like that on one of today’s TV shows? It would be denounced as hateful and the “woke” corporations would pull their advertising from the show.

A hidden element to ST:TOS is that it was a “transition” show (after the big transition of black and white to color. All ST:TOS were in color) In this case, it was the transition from stage acting to TV studio acting.
The actors on the show were all experienced theater performers, and were used to being shuttled between TV show productions of the time. You can see this in the overuse of makeup and emotive “stage voice” dialogue.
After the series ended, you started to see actors who had never performed on stage more and more in TV shows.

I, personally, find the 1st-season episode "Miri" (starring Kim Darby and Michael J. Pollard) more prescient.
Virologists on an Earth-like planet (actually, an "identical Earth" - don't worry, the plotline is instantly dropped and no further explanation ever given) accidentally release an engineered pathogen (called "Vocid-91" if I remember correctly) into the planet's environment, immediately wiping out the entire planet's adult population.
A landing party from the Enterprise beams down - but sadly forgets all about facemasks and social distancing, and so is promptly infected.
Regards,

Genetic warfare had been raging for a while. It was called Eugenics. It’s still very much in vogue though it’s called something else. Like Planned Parenthood.

Space Hippies was another bomb.
Oddly, the "Space Hippies" episode on "Lost in Space" was a highlight of the series. Dr. Smith adopting the Hippie hair and lingo was outtasight, daddy-o!

Look at all those technical devices they used that we use now. So true. But I'm old enough to remember Dick Tracy in the daily comics. He had the first iWatch - a communicator he wore on his wrist.
Amazing how ideas become reality. It is called Capitalism.

I remember seeing on retro-tv Uhuru wearing an earbud and Kirk and crew using flip phones and Spock with his Tri-corder; and then the machines in sickbay. Then Scottie talking to the computer.

Heinlein postulated genetic warfare in the 1940s.I remember the reference to the "Eugenics wars of the 1990s" in the the episode that introduced Kahn.

Yeah. Season 5 was kind of weak. They should end Expanse with a bang up Season 6. Don’t let it trail off into insignificance like the ridiculous last season of Babylon 5.

You can see this in the overuse of makeup and emotive “stage voice” dialogue.Wow, I never realized that before. Watching "The Searchers" I thought, "Gee, these guys are really over-acting". But I suppose if you were on stage, you would present that way so that all the audience could pick up on your dialogue and emotions.
Interesting.
