The Slavery--Abortion Connection

It started with my desire to learn about the Civil War. I wasn’t looking for history, I just wanted to know what would drive Americans to slaughter each other in such vast numbers (an estimated 640,000 to 700,000).

I’ve written here about diving into Ken Burns’ Civil War series, and I lamented the utter waste of seeing another one on the horizon.

There’s something that has been gnawing at me since then, since hearing the penetrating quotes of Frederick Douglass in particular regarding his experience as a slave, and in reading Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass.

I think what’s been bothering me, is that for all the excuses for the institution of Slavery, there is no escaping the reality that race-based, involuntary slavery was (and is, as still practiced in many areas of the world) barbaric and utterly inhumane. It was indeed a blot on our nation, and this “original sin” cost Americans nearly three quarters of a million lives, and so much disruption and heartache on many levels.

I had thought about doing a post on what I was learning from Douglass’ searing autobiography, but something was missing that I could not put my finger on.

Until today.

I ran across a letter from Lila Rose, President of Live Action, a pro-life activist organization. Included in the letter was a copy of the photo that you see at the top of this post, of an escaped slave with raised scars all over his back. The photo became known as “whipped Peter,” and its appearance into the mainstream gave credence to “a picture is worth a thousand words”– awakening America to the horror of Slavery.

Like others in the pro-life movement before her, Lila linked Slavery to the current American holocaust that is abortion, with nearly 63 MILLION babies murdered in their mother’s womb since Roe V. Wade made this act legal in the U.S.

She mentioned that since it took the photo of “whipped Peter” to bring the ugly reality of Slavery to the American public, her organization is likewise demonstrating the ugly reality of abortion to the people via videos featuring Dr. Anthony Levatino, who has performed over 1,200 abortions.

I can finally put into words what’s been gnawing at me since my awakening regarding Slavery: As horrific as Frederick Douglass’ and others’ reports of its practice are; they must pale when put aside the reality of the 63 MILLION innocent, vulnerable unborn babies ripped apart by the modern, surgical tools of murder!

In other words, the original sin of Slavery has NOT been extinguished! Far from it. This evil has just transformed into the even GREATER evil of abortion!

The Founding Fathers talked and wrote that “…all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness…”

Yet it’s clear as day that they fell short of this goal, in the “light” of Slavery. And no matter how much we attempt to convince ourselves that we are “more enlightened,” one look at the total abortion numbers reveals us to be liars.

It’s way past time for us to face the reality that our sin is far greater than that of the forefathers that many of us pretend to be better than.

And we should no longer wonder why our Father in Heaven has allowed us to be ruled by tyrants. We, who have enslaved, have become the enslaved. We have gotten the government our deeds deserve; in fact, noting the severity of our crimes, we’ve actually gotten off lightly to date.

I am optimistic about our future, though I know that a happy future for us (mercy) is tied to the mercy and protection we provide to the innocent and most vulnerable. We will never be fully blessed until we do right by these, and by our God.

We, who have enslaved, have become the enslaved. We have gotten the government our deeds deserve; in fact, noting the severity of our crimes, we’ve actually gotten off lightly to date.

I really get tired of this collective guilt BS.

Yes, I abhor abortion and Yes Planned Parenthood was a racist plot to limit the births of black children.

But, none of my ancestors came to this country until at least 35 years after the conclusion of the Civil War. This is true for a huge percentage of US citizens today.

Even prior to the Civil War the percentage of US citizens who owned slaves was less than 10%.

And just an aside; all of my ancestors were devout Catholics so I am pretty sure that none of them ever had any involvement with Planned Parenthood.

From the start being responsible for the sins of your ancestors is problematic, but carrying guilt for the sins of someone else’s ancestors is just stupid.

I will never accept any responsibility or guilt for any repression of Black or anyone else.

I think you are missing the correlation......
.....or maybe just denying it

The premise is slavery is wrong ........a war was fought to curtail or prevent it from continuing

Abortion is wrong......and the blood guilt is on us all....
Corporately, what have we done to stop it?
Individually, through the years folks have tried to stop it....
....but essentially we let it continue

Whether you agree or not..........this collective sin is a blot on our nation
If we haven’t done anything to stop it........Prayed......Appeal to our legislators.......Volunteer at Crisis Pregnancy Centers.......Risk arrest to call attention to abortion........

then we are responsible for 72 million souls

Yes.

Abortion is far worse than slavery and I object to the linkage of the two in laying of guilt, debt of blame and I will accept none.

The nation’s penance for slavery was paid with the blood of 640 thousand dead and Sherman laid waste to the South.

It is long past time that the curse of slavery be left in the dust.

The curse of abortion goes on. Don’t be distracted by drawing correlations between the two. Don’t be patsy for the race baiters by continuing to decry the racism of the American People.

Each year in January and February I send the below letters to about 40 papers and commentators. My numbers are a few years behind now, so I need to do the computations again that I list in my bibliography.

Roe v. Wade and Black History Month (February): Black History Month should remind people Democrats professed an apparent contradiction as they seceded to begin the Civil War.

Roe v. Wade Tarnishes MLK Dream (Ruling was on January 22): As “fire eaters” on both sides drove this country towards the Civil War, Democrats professed an apparent contradiction.

They demanded protection where slavery existed, and the right to take their “peculiar property” into the territories. They demanded trading their property across state lines and that states enforce the Fugitive Slave Law. Yet during final debates and for years prior, these same people joined the near universal condemnation of the international slave trade.

This contradiction vanishes when understanding the South was being overrun with their property. Democrat Senator Alfred Iverson of Georgia said before Congress in 1861, “We know well that we never can enjoy equal possession of the territories without protection of our property….. They increase, according to the last census bill, at the rate of 32% every ten years.” Meaning the South needed new slave states and plantations to absorb the increasing population.

Over one hundred fifty years later the Black Community provides voting plurality to the Democrat Party and adopts their Pro-Choice sacrament of abortion. According to the Centers for Disease Control, black women account for about 36% of abortions, though blacks constitute about 14% of total population. Applying antebellum population growth to the period after the Roe v. Wade decision (1/22/73) would mean 77 million blacks instead of the 46 million currently living.

So what benefits accrue for blacks providing the Democrat Party 90% voting support, compared to a mandate for contributing 60% of their humanity to enrich the Democrat slave master’s political status?

You can find my post on many threads opposing abortion and the great sin against God that it is.

But I have grown very impatient with the persistent slander against this country that there is somehow a unique blot on our history that we had slavery in this country.

Every civilization in history had slavery but the United States is the only one in history that fought a civil war to eliminate slavery. Where is the credit for that for the BLM crowd?

I deny that Slavery is the original sin of the United States.

Slavery was a necessary evil that had to be accepted in order for the United States to be possible. Many, maybe most of the founders wanted to do away with slavery but knew that it was accept slavery or lose the southern states and not have the strength to withstand the European powers that would pick them off one by one.
