Every darn ferret died. I am not kidding.
There were many links to the studies here on FR.
Maybe someone on the thread saved them?
“Every darn ferret died. I am not kidding.”
Same Vaccines??
The articles I read unfortunately did not have a link to the original studies. One of the articles did mention a 2005 study that used Ferrets. Searched with the duck, but haven’t found one where all died.
I did find several that concluded ferrets were a useful animal to use for the trials-they all had a downside of some sort, and urged caution in human trials.
Bullet points from one example:
From VACCINE Available online 23 January 2005
“vaccination did not prevent SARS-CoV infection in ferrets.
In contrast, immunized ferrets (particularly those immunized with rMVA-spike) exhibited significantly stronger inflammatory responses and focal necrosis in liver tissue after SARS-CoV challenge than control animals.
Thus, our data suggest that enhanced hepatitis is linked to
vaccination with rMVA expressing SARS-CoV antigens....
...although SARS-CoV does not cause clinical disease in ferrets, our results suggest that ferret may be a useful model for evaluating the safety of the vaccination
strategy.
.... we would like to suggest that extra caution must be taken in future human trials of SARS vaccines due to the potential organ damage resulting from immunizations”
