His aides don't have the authority to do that. All of those people are out of uniform. Name tags, insignias, unit badges are all part of the paycheck. You're not supposed to be in uniform without them. If they are actual American troops, then some woke commanding officer violated the military uniform regulations if they ordered those people to remove a required part of their uniform.
Not sure where you heard that anyone has to remove their name tag if pictures will be public...

As there are on every base where the USAF operates. This was not a large number, and it was on base at RAF Mildenhall.
When I was in the army and you were in formation to be addressed by a dignitary everyone was dress right dress and in the same uniform. I guess things have changed or I am missing something.

Well not sure how long ago that is but name tags aren’t that big of deal considering the DoD release hundreds of pictures weekly with persons with name tags on. Just check out Facebook for official posts from DoD. Plenty of info out there.
