American bishops will discuss whether the Catholic Church should bar pro-abortion and pro-LGBTQ politicians from receiving Holy Communion.
Church leadership remains divided on the issue as Biden, only the second Catholic U.S. president, holds stances that are contrary to church teachings.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will hold their annual meeting, virtually, from Wednesday through Friday, during which they will decided whether or not to ask the Committee on Doctrine to draft a teaching document on the topic of Communion, Reuters reported.
Some leaders in the church believe that Biden should not be allowed to receive the sacrament, which is central to the Catholic faith. Other high-profile politicians could suffer a similar punishment over their political stances if the debate should go in favor of such a strict move.

But as long as Joe drops a stuffed envelope of our taxpayer's money in the basket he's not going to be banned from the catholic church, they can be bought, we ought to know that by now.
The fact that it evens merits “discussion” explains the empty churches...
Biden is a scandal monger, as is Pelosi. But Tom Ridge, Arnold Schwarzenegger are, too.
The marxist thinking of “social justice” afflicts many Church members, and is hugely problematic, as that thinking infuses the Church top to bottom.
That, and the Church’s unbridled addiction to the pornography of federal money.
Thanks for posting, USA Conservative.
This discussion has been going on for 20+ years.
If that doesn’t define how a Democrat handles a problem; then nothing does.

Yes, all of the bishops should agree that a pro-abortion politician should not receive Holy Communion.
However, Catholics should not use the division as an excuse to stay away from Church. There are so many passionately pro-life bishops, and priests, and we can go to the Church that they celebrate Mass in.
Update from my email (dated 6/18/21) from CatholicVote.org:
“..The vote by the U.S bishops was overwhelming.
168-55 to be exact. That’s 75%.
They approved moving forward with a much-needed teaching document on the Eucharist.
This is great news! This is what so many lay Catholics have wanted from their bishops: Clarity and leadership.
The final document is not expected until November. There will be intense lobbying behind the scenes — and the debate will inevitably be politicized just as it was this time.
The Bishops withstood an avalanche of criticism. Left-wing “Catholic” publications and even the New York Times did everything they could to sabotage these efforts. And Nancy Pelosi tried to throw cold water on what the bishops were doing. (snip)
While some bishops on Thursday expressed concern that any mention of exhorting Catholics not to approach Holy Communion would drive people away from Mass, others argued that practicing Catholics expect their bishops to talk about public officials and doctrinal fidelity, and are increasingly disillusioned by their perception of episcopal timidity on the subject. ....”
I agree it doesn’t remove our sacramental observations, but frankly, I believe in Hell while many Catholics haven’t been sufficiently warned of it (and the hierarchy’s support for pro-abortion pols indicates to many that it must not exist).
