WASHINGTON – Two members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are asking the Justice Department to provide information about where Supreme Court justices have traveled, asserting that the disclosure would improve transparency on the high court.

“The justices of our highest court are subject to the lowest standards of transparency of any senior officials across the federal government,” wrote Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., and John Kennedy, R-La., in a June 4 letter made public Tuesday.

What ever. The Supreme Court is the third branch of government over which neither of the other branches have any authority whatsoever. This is an unconstitutional incursion, whatever its intent.

I know John Roberts likes to vacation in Mauritius, but I don’t know why.

It could be innocent, but I can’t confirm that.

Yet, you have no problem with them taking advice from a six foot tall mouse.

What ever. The Supreme Court is the third branch of government over which neither of the other branches have any authority whatsoever. This is an unconstitutional incursion, whatever its intent.

Checks and balances demands that the other two branches of government be able to investigate judicial conduct. All judges have an ethical duty to avoid the appearance of conflicts of interest, etc. The only real limitation is personal privacy rights. If any judge or justice is getting free flights on a private jet, people have a right to know. If a justice gets paid to give a lecture in Europe, people have a right to know that too. They are in government, and Congress can pass laws that apply to judges and set the limits of constitutional "good behavior" in office.

Nothing less than threatening behavior of the leg branch against the judicial branch.

This is suddenly an issue now?

This is an unconstitutional incursion, whatever its intent.

Perhaps, especially if the Marshals Service produces the information.

Maybe this is just to increase the public scrutiny over past rumblings of Lolita Express flight logs, and perhaps if needed, law enforcement given the activities associated with Lolita Express destinations.

We'll see if SCOTUS itself raises Constitutional complaints against this.

For some reason, I don't think Justice Clarence "John, this is the end of democracy" Thomas would have any objection.

Agreed. As much as I like Kennedy, it’s not their purview.

This is a way to gently let the justices know that 9-0 decisions will not be tolerated...

Congress has authority over the Supreme Court, though they have chosen not to use it at times.

“...over which neither of the other branches have any authority whatsoever...”

The congress has the authority to impeach and remove supreme court justices.

The congress has the authority to impeach and remove supreme court justices.

Right, meaning that the Congress has the ultimate constitutional power to decide what "good behavior" for a judge or justice is, and what is not.
