Finally the weather has gotten warmer here in Southern Connecticut. Last weekend (Memorial Day weekend) was a total washout with temps never getting out of the 40s and pounding hard rains.
That was also the weekend I decided to go camping with my brother and nephews up in New Hampshire! We made the best of it and fortunately had a lot of firewood and alcohol to get us through. But it was a bit disconcerting to get out of my sleeping bag last Saturday morning in my tent to and put my bare feet into about three inches of water. Much of my gear was soaked. But we got a nice fire going and got everything dried out pretty nicely. All and all, nothing beats camping in the woods.
Anyway, fast forward to this weekend and we are having much more summerlike weather for a change. Decided to get my grocery shopping done early so I could spend the balance of the day sitting outside reading some books.
So to the Big Y I went (big grocery chain in CT) and stocked up on some food. The CT governor decided that masks were not mandatory indoors here anymore so it was nice to get my groceries with no mask though to my mild annoyance, about 80% of the clients in the store were still masked up. Nobody hassles me about it though so it's nice to be mask free both indoors and out.
So everything is going swimmingly well as I exit the store and load the back of my car with groceries. I roll down all the windows and open up the sunroof and proceed to exit the store parking lot onto the main road when BOOM!
I got rear-ended by the car in back of me. Nothing too serious, no airbags went off or anything, but it was enough for both of us to pull over to do the dreaded exchange of information for our insurance companies.
So I get out of my car to inspect the damage. Just a big scratch on my rear fender but the person that hit me had some noticeable damage to the front bumper and grille. All plastic though so probably not a major repair job. Still, the exchange of information in these situations is mandatory and expected.
Curiously, the driver that hit me did not get out of the car. Instead she (he) rolled down the window and began profusely apologizing. Clearly he/she was taking the blame and just wanted to get the hell out of there without too much fuss. Which was okay by me. I just needed the information so that I could notify my insurance company and have them deal with the insurance company of the other driver should it come to that. But really, I was probably wasn't even going to do that as I just had some scratchs on a plastic rear bumper that could be easily buffed out and re-painted.
Something curious about the driver I noticed right off the bat. Even though the driver was obviously dressed as a female with long girly hair and what looked like a blouse and pearl necklace, the driver had a rather deep masculine voice. Driver was very young (probably late teens to early 20s), she/he was quite nervous and obviously not wanting to get out of the car.
However, he/she was fully cooperative and allowed me to take pictures while handing me license and insurance card so I could copy down the information. I returned the favor by giving my information.
The driver's license given to me had a male's name (Christopher) and a male picture. But the driver of the car looked absolutely nothing like that picture of "Christopher."
So when I returned the license and insurance car, I politely asked if he was the person as stated on the license. He nodded his head yes and sort of bowed his head down towards the steering wheel. He was obviously mortified and scared that a police car might pull up and make the situation even more complicated. He also gave me his phone number and stated that he was glad I was okay and that he would rather settle this privately rather than through insurance as it was his Mom's car. He told me to get an estimate for the damage and let him know what it was and that he would pay for any repair needed on my car.
Anyway, it was a rather bizarre incident but I give the kid credit for acknowledging he was at fault and trying to make it right. He never did get out of that car though. Looks like he'll have some explaining to do with his mom (on the car damage).
After getting home, I re-inspected my rear bumper and it really appears to be just some scratches (similar to stock photo below) and no other damage done. I wonder if I should just let it go or pursue things further.
So a gender bender rammed your ass?
In a manner of speaking.
Should ah called the cops especially if you were 100% not aat fault.
Too late good luck
So happy I bailed from Big Y country
If you have no backup camera or similar sensors in the rear bumper...I would try to buff that out first. Might just be a paint smear.
Sounds like you pulled out into traffic from a parking lot and failed to yield to on coming traffic.
He is a shy exhibitionist.
Our insurance company recommends calling them to report the accident at the scene of the accident to document it.
Give me that phone number.
I'm up for some phone hijinks.
Rear ended by a tranny, eh? And you got it’s phone number!
No, the driver was in back of me also leaving the parking lot. As the car in front of me pulled into traffic, I eased up to the stop line and came to a stop while waiting for oncoming traffic to go by me. The kid in back of me evidently thought I was pulling onto the highway as well and rammed me. Actually a common mistake made by newer drivers who are more focused on oncoming traffic than the car directly in front of them.
Same thing happened to me, although without the gender bender aspect! I had the same rub-out the damage, the elderly guy who hit me had a lot more damage and was very upset about having hit me, and his wife was even more upset with him. I felt bad for him. So I just let it go. I figured his wife would deal with him.
This guy or whatever it is that hit you is going to have a hard enough time dealing with Mom…
“Rear ended by a tranny, eh? And you got it’s phone number!”
Sounds like he’s gonna settle out-of-court.
I would just let it slide. That pathetic young man has enough to deal with. The fact that there so many evil forces in the world that seek to exploit his ilk for political gain makes his condition no less tragic.
Definitely time for a social worker.
Let it rip.
That looks like it will mostly buff out.
If not you can buy a new bumper painted with your color code on ebay.
Or like $600 at a shop.
I would feel bad for the poor confused broke kid, who knows what kind of woke genderbending brainwashing he has been forced to endure
I got rear-ended by a woman I know to be a Vietnamese prostitute. She worked at the massage parlor next to my fraternity house. I had no damage so I said we didn’t need to do anything. She was so happy, she hugged me and kissed me on the cheek.
I drove straight home and scrubbed that cheek raw.
I've had these paint smears on other cars. Just a buff and repaint job that can be done in minutes. Typically I will only bother with this when I am ready to sell the car.
I was just curious, as it sounded as though you had exited the parking lot when you were rear ended. Btw, you initially said the damage, a big scratch to your “rear fender”, but when you got home you noted damage was to your rear bumper.
Not trying to nit pick, but details seem to jump out at me.
