GARDENA, Calif. — A man suspected of viciously attacking a woman at a gas station in Gardena was arrested in Long Beach Friday evening.
Authorities were looking for a 300-to-350-pound shirtless man seen in a video attacking the woman at the gas station.
The attack appears to be random and without provocation, and left the woman, a 25-year-old single mother, hospitalized with serious injuries.
The suspect, who has not been immediately identified, was taken into custody around 7:30 p.m. after a family member turned him in. The family member expressed concern he would hurt someone else or himself.
Investigators say the suspect, who is in his late 40s, is currently on parole for assault.
The assault happened Sunday, May 30 around 7:10 p.m. at a station in the 500 block of Rosecrans Avenue in Gardena.
On surveillance video, the woman is seen pumping gas at her car as the suspect emerges from his black Ford Expedition at the next pump and calmly walks up to her.
He immediately starts punching her repeatedly in the head and body, even as she falls to the ground. As she lays helpless on the ground, he continues punching her again and again. He also grabs her hair to slam her head against the car and the ground multiple times.
The attack continued for at least 40 seconds until he stopped and stood over her motionless body. The surveillance video of the brutal assault shows the large man getting out of his car, walking up to the woman as she pumps gas, then, without provocation, he sucker punches her in the face and continues to beat her on the ground.

A 63-year-old woman was attacked Saturday night near the same intersection. She was sitting in her car at a traffic light when the suspect walked up and punched her.
Police believe there may have been other assaults and they are asking victims and witnesses to come forward.
The woman in the gas station attack told Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies she did not recognize the man and that he didn’t take any personal property from her.
She was described as a 25-year-old single mother who was stopping for gas as she headed home from work that day. Detectives say she didn’t even notice the suspect until he was attacking her.
“He walked around, she didn’t see him,” LASD Det. Keegan McInnis told Eyewitness News. “By the time she looked up he had thrown the first punch. You see in the video the attack is pretty vicious. Then he calmly walks away as if nothing had happened.”
She suffered severe injuries to her face and head from the attack and was transported to a hospital. She was later released and was recuperating at home.
“This is a 25-year-old single mother who just got off work and was on her way home,” McInnis said. “This could be your daughter, this could be your sister, your mom. She was just innocently pumping gas.”
“Any info that could help us identify this gentleman and bring him into custody would help your community be safer and help our victim sleep better at night.”
“She’s afraid to even take her daughter to school right now because of this attack.”
Not one media reported about this attack and condemned this hate crime.
Where are the strong men these days? Sat back while allowing a woman to get nearly beaten to death. Pathetic!

Situational Awareness is key. There is a local town where I won’t buy gas because there are zombies (white meth-heads) walking around all day. It just makes me uneasy.

I am a woman. Don’t know if my routine would have helped this woman, but I never stand outside my car and watch the pump. I scan my credit card, start the gas, and then get back into my car, lock the door, and wait for the pump to stop.
On Parole for Assault, build more prison an lock these animals up and keep them there.

Probably been 10 years since I was in that area, never alone. Always get gas in LA first thing in the morning. Always.
I know, one of my pet peeves. They mislabel horrible males as “gentlemen” and horrible females as “ladies”.
Situational awareness is critical. Be alert to walking shadows at all times especially if they are behind you.

Do not discount the shock factor. Unless he is is highly-trained, it often takes awhile for a bystander to process what’s actually going on. And that might have been what happened here. Because a group of men did eventually move towards the attacker.
I’m sure he’s already been released back into the community b/c “no cash bail” - DA George Gascon won’t press charges.
But...Use a gun in California, especially the Los Angeles area, and YOU WILL be prosecuted, personally, by DA George Gascon.
I personally would have helped but I tell you why men are a afraid to help, especially white men…..If I had jumped in, there is a possibility that I would have also been arrested immediately and put in jail for several days because the police forces now are so afraid that if they do not investigate every detail in my life (cause I may be a nazi) they will be exposed as being “racist”. It would cost me $10s of thousands of dollars to defend myself. Plus I would probably hurt this bastard and face civil charges. Also, you know that media would have spun in some white privilege/racism accusations against me. In the end, my life would be ruined and my family would be penniless all for helping out in a situation that would be a “no-brainer” in a sane world. But we do not live in a sane world, we live in a Satanic world.
When I have to drive into Los Angeles, mostly for work-related reasons, I ALWAYS make sure I have a full tank of gas so I don’t have to stop. I also ALWAYS keep my car maintained which lessens the chance of a break-down in dicey areas. I was very lucky - when I was having the car serviced, they found a nail embedded in one of the tires - and were able to fix it.
Also- drive with the windows up and the doors locked at all times - I try to make sure I am never boxed in in case I need to hit the gas.
This is one of the joys of living near a large city in 2021.
