Viral videos from yesterday’s game at Yankee stadium show two men unveiling a “Trump Won Save America” flag on the first-base side of the stadium which prompted a Bronx cheer of boos from many in the crowd.
Below you can view the moment from different angles:
But what happened next belongs to countries with communist regimes.
The security escorted out of Yankee Stadium Thursday – one of them apparently in cuffs.
The stadium is booing the people.
Below we have videos where security tackles and handcuffs the fans and confiscating the flag:
Photos from the incident:
“Sounded like the entire crowd was booing until security confiscated the banner, which then resulted in a large cheer,” tweeted Max Goodman, who covers the team for Sports Illustrated.
Lindsey Adler, reporter with The Athletic tweeted “Lots of booing here after some jabronis unfurled a ‘TRUMP WON’ banner off the second deck. (He didn’t).”
For a country with the greatest freedom on earth, we really felt low, even if you don’t support Trump you have to allow people to express their opinion, it’s why we have the first amendment after all!
The left can’t cancel Trump, in fact, the more they try, the bigger he becomes.
No, but they can sit in the stands & display any sign they want at the players as long as they heed public guidelines & laws. Just like anyone else that has access to the space. There are laws against entering the playing field. Specific written laws passed by legislatures in order to protect public safety. There are no laws against unfurling a political banner with no foul language or insightful words.
They were not yelling ‘FIRE’ in a crowded theater.
Is it leased to the Yankees during games? If so, the Yankees control the space during that time?
But is it free to display a banner that promotes drinking, one of the leading causes of death in the US. . .what about MADD and their ilk find the alcohol banner morally offensive.
It's not about censorship. It's about a professional business having the right to limit signage (even homemade bed sheets) at an event held in their facility. For one thing, unlimited sign displays may block the view of fans who paid good money to sit in a seat and watch the game.
I suspect whoever did this was *hoping* to cause a scene. What did they expect? Polls show most Americans are already aware of the election controversy and a great many think the election was stolen but we can't complain about athletes making political statements at a game if we're going to make political statements ourselves.
If I let other people display political messages I agree with, then no real choice. . .14th Amendment equal protection.
Arrested? For what?
Possibly trespassing and only if they were given free warning to leave.
Well it would have been VERY INTERESTING if they had unfurled them SIDE by SIDE of TRUMP WON and then BIDEN IS COMPETENT.... because what would the speech police have done?
They’d allow a banner expressing approval of Osama Bin Laden or ISIS before allowing one of Trump.
Most New York City dwellers sympathize far more with jihadis whose stated goal is to destroy America than with America-First patriots.
As far as the Yankees org itself goes, they jumped the shark years ago when they defiled Monument Park with plaques for Nelson Mandela and LGBTQ.
or a yuge publicity stunt for their YUGEFLAGS.com
The Yankee Stadium website has a “Banners and Signs” policy: https://www.mlb.com/yankees/ballpark/information/policies
Maybe the following is the justification used by security to remove the banner?
“Banners and signs are permitted provided they are baseball-related, . . . . Banners and signs may not obstruct the view of other Guests or Yankee Stadium advertising signage . . . . Banners and signs may not be displayed in fair territory. Any banner or sign may be removed, at any time, at the sole and absolute discretion of the Yankees.”
When the fans holding the banner got into a tug-of-war with security, then security removed them, too.
The question is, if a same-size banner had a different political message supported by the crowd, would security have removed it?
It was a stupid stunt that will be used against conservatives.
Welcome to the USSA.
So what charges are they pressing against the people?
Where is it a crime to unfurl a banner stating your opinion?
Why not?
Was that a condition for attending? Did someone say up front that support for Trump was not allowed?
What condition did they violate that justifies security from cuffing them?
Do you really not have a problem with how this was handled?
What are you doing on FR then?
You forget—over half the country voted for Trump! I think he has a bright future!
I replied to a guy who said this was a freedom of speech violation. (It was not.) Please show me where I posted anything other than that. As for the license, you can read it here. Note the part where it says that the license is revocable at the will of the licensor (the Yankees) with or without cause.
Because there was no First Amendment protection (private enterprise) and the ticket license agreement gave the Yankees the right to remove them I have no problem with it. Based on my view of the video, security only got rough when the people resisted.
By the way, conservatives are supposed to be supporters of private property rights. If you think people should have the right to do whatever they want in the context of a private enterprise, I wonder why the hell YOU are on Freerepublic!
You are upset because you happen to support the message on the sign. If it had instead been a sign in support of Biden and the same thing happened, I have no doubt you would be cheering the actions of the Yankees.
You’re wrong.
The problem I have with the incident was the way security handled it.
Let them take their banner and leave.
It’s understandable that they want to keep their property and if someone tried to take it from them they would resist.
He is in NY
Then why did you attack me for simply pointing out (correctly, I am a lawyer) there was no First Amendment issue? I said nothing about how it was handled.
Trump won.
