Cold viruses have been held at bay during months of mask wearing and social distancing. Now that people vaccinated for COVID-19 are taking off their masks and meeting friends in restaurants and elsewhere, are we doomed to get colds and sniffles?
Yes, but it’s not because the pandemic caused a change in our immune system to make us more susceptible to catching common colds.
We’re likely to get summer colds because we’ve stopped wearing masks and started mingling. That’s giving cold viruses opportunities to spread.
The prevalence of colds this summer may reach pre-pandemic levels, health experts said.

If you want to avoid a summer cold, keep doing the same steps that we took against COVID-19. Wearing masks, washing our hands and social distancing will lessen the impact of summer cold season, Adalja said.

Yes, but what they fail to mention is that this is a good thing.
Constant exposure to viruses is why we developed immune systems in the first place.
If we were to keep wearing masks and distancing, our immune systems would weaken and common cold viruses would become life threatening instead of just annoying coughs and sniffles.
Exposure is a good thing.
Wearing masks and distancing is not a good thing.

Control must be maintained, but honestly I am working on four straight weeks of a summer cold.
A good portion of cold and flu viruses come from China, where they live in filth under the same roof as their poultry and swine. Less travel from the backward Chicom germ factory, less colds and flus. Just the ChiCom beer flu.
