.40 S&W rocks!
“...Maybe for the first four, but I think 40 S&W is not going anywhere....”
Agree. Lots and lots of .40S&W pistols out there. They can be a tad “snappy” but with a little practice, they’re not that hard to control and get decent hits with.
As stated, the 9mm ammo has come a long ways over the years, and I’ve been known to carry one in the hot summer months as it’s just a little easier to conceal.
Personally, I rather prefer anything that starts with .4 in my handguns for close-in self defense though.
I just really like that I have been able to find it on a regular basis. We must have some unwritten family rule that we can’t have any two weapons that use the same ammo (unless it’s something that my kids can “borrow” from me). I don’t remember that decision being made, but here we are.
Me too, a Glock and Bersa in 40.
I think there are just way too many 40’s out there, and it will be widely available for a long, long time. 40 S&W is still the 3rd or 4th best selling handgun caliber. Either way, as new as it is, almost all pistols that are chambered in 40 S&W can very easily be converted to 357 sig and/or 9mm with off the shelf parts in a few minutes. Which begs the question, why is 357 sig not on this list?
Just based on the sheer number of handguns that have been sold in that caliber, you are correct. Even if manufacturers stop producting the guns altogether, those existing .40's still need to be fed, and ammo producers will continue to be all too happy to fill that market need.
I hope so too.
I think I’ll try to round up a few boxes of 41 mags anyway. All of the ammo I have for that weapon is over twenty years old.
LOL!! The author must have had a deadline PLUS terminal writer's block, to put together that load of horse manure...
;^)
THE 10MM ROCKS!
.40 S&W = .40 Short & Weak
I assume there are too many .40’s out there for them to go away fast. Maybe in a few decades.
I’ve heard that you can stop a 9mm with a lot of layers of clothing. I suspect that the 25 auto is only useful in the summer against people in a t-shirt.
I work part time in a gun shop.
40 S&W is going away.
10mm is gaining popularity.
Agreed, he does seem to have some obvious biases, still an interesting discussion.
Why is the 357 Sig not on the list? Because it is an outstanding fighting cartridge for those who can afford it and control it. It is quite simply a better mousetrap, if one is not a weak female or wimpy soy-fed male shooter.
32 acp is going to be around for a long time. It was highly popular especially in Europe and there are a LOT of handguns in that caliber still floating around.
He never even made it to the sixth one.
Bingo. The author is probably a SIG guy, and maybe a 10mm fan also - which is why .40S&W is listed instead (even though sales of .357SIG & 10mm handguns/ammo are a just a tiny fraction of .40S&W sales ;^)...
10mm is best millimeter.
I think my Dad still has my Grandmother’s old .25. Good for scaring rabbits out of here strawberries and not much else...
Thank you for that data!
I always wondered what went through his brain, beside the bullet was, “How did I lose”!(Re; “Shawshank Redemption”).
