Well....he might have bled out and there wouldn’t have been blood to go to his brain.
His blood pressure would certainly have dropped but it would be pretty unusual to exsanguinate from a venous bleed especially if you successfully hold pressure on it like he did. The venous system is low pressure compared to the arterial system so a big lacerated artery will bleed like crazy.
