Senator Paul then said Dr. Fauci must answer questions on why he funded dangerous human-viral testing even after it was banned here in the US.
Senator Paul, “There’s a huge ethical question about the origins of the virus. The ethical question is should we be doing gain of function, should we be upgrading animal viruses in the lab to make them more susceptible to humans… We have to ask Dr. Fauci, why did he in overseeing these labs allowed gain of function? Why did he allow labs to get money to upgrade animal viruses so they can infect humans? We got worried about this around 2 or 3 years ago. We closed down about half of them but then Dr. Fauci and his committees opened them back up. We need to ask him why are we doing this in China but are we doing this in the US?”

That is not a research article, nor is it the supposed “smoking gun” paper that I have mentioned a few times.
That editorial you linked only discusses the research conducted to determine whether one specific wild virus can bind to human cells. Much as in the paper I can’t find now, the researchers used a laboratory virus as a platform to test if a surface protein from the wild virus would bind to human cells. It did. This suggests that the wild virus, the SHC014, is a potential human pathogen. But they did not conduct further research to discover whether SHC014 can actually cause human infection, because binding alone is not sufficient for infection to occur. Viral infection is a multi-step process; showing that step 1 occurs doesn’t tell anything about steps 2, 3, 4, etc. In any case, there is no mention of any gain-of-function study.
I don’t care.
It shows that studies on these kinds of things were going on, and discussed in the literature, years before Fauci the Prick™ announced Trump was going to have a pandemic during his Administration.
And before China came up with the coof.
Senator Paul is a politician. They have their own cadence and language.
Top Kek.
You spelled "automatically" wrong. What if the wild spike protein *can* bind, but we didn't know it, since humans hadn't been exposed to it yet?
Who is "they" precious?
If you don't have the article; then you can't say by definition, right?
And that also leaves out the possibility of later research, published or unpublished, carried on at the same lab, or others, like at Wuhan.
I already saw that article, but thanks for the effort. It does not give a link to the paper that was published to report the research results, which is what I am looking for.
The paper was misrepresented by some reporter as proof that the Chinese conducted gain-of-function research, which (in the conspiracy, anyway) is incontrovertible proof that SARS-CoV-2 is a bioweapon. It is proof of nothing of the sort. I like to link pertinent research on topics, and I am unable to do so in this instance.
Ah, by “it” you meant “the virus” not “the spike”.
Fair enough.
You’re telling me you have government research credentials. Like Anthony Fauci.
Got it.
Do you remember any of the authors, the journal, or the year this article was published?
because why learn from someone who actually has expertise, when running with wild ass guessing is so satisfying.
Your challenge "Have you ever learned the meaning of 'gain of function?'" was a masterpiece of inserting foot in mouth. Best laugh of the night.
Don't worry, we can help you with that, but you have to honestly want to change for the better.
Huh. Ralph Baric has a paper from 2015 where he talks about introducing two point mutations in the spike protein of a coronavirus, specifically to enhance its ability to enter human cells.
+1.
I wonder if she’s a government spy.
And, I wonder if her plaintive cries “I can’t find the paper” are designed to get people to give links to the few remaining locations which haven’t been actively censored.
There are many billions of dollars at stake at the least, even if you accept the absurd supposition that this was not bioengineered by China and/or others.
ipse dixit
That's good, recanting your original insult towards me -- and for the actual reason it should be recanted, too -- is a good step in the right direction.
Oh, I wasn’t insulting you. You probably aren’t used to a critique of what bounces around your noggin.
You must not have met my wife. :-D
I’ve discussed these matters with this poster before—the poster’s background was well known to me.
I was making a point that her defense of the establishment and of the fake virus is so low IQ that she might as well get an F on the most basic concepts.
It would be the same as if I ask you have you ever learned anything about the Federal Reserve. That’s the one you and I have gone on about a few times.
You didn’t get the dry humor. I will remember that—if I want to make you laugh I’ll have to use very concrete, easy to understand jokes!
