It would be nice if some research group did a nationwide audit of death certificates and counted the number of times Covid-19 was listed as first, second, third, etc. cause or contributor to death. Bonus if this same group looked at the medical records of people to see when and under what circumstances a Covid test was done and turned up positive and compared this to a person's chronic disease state and condition, prognosis, and when they started deteriorating.

Incorrect. I would fill out the death certificate as 1. acute respiratory failure 2. covid 19 infection. The immediate cause of death is respiratory failure (or renal failure or heart failure etc ) caused by the covid. it is clearly a covid death even though covid is not listed first It may be listed second or even third and still be the ultimate cause of the death Someone that works in a coroners office should know that

Financial and emotional STRESS due to the lockdowns , people losing jobs, businesses, life savings, excess drug use and drinking, limited social contacts, erc. all would have contibuted to exces deaths.

I think all these posters on FR who think this is just the flu and all this stuff is fake should go to an ICU in Michigan and get back to me.

And then maybe talk to all the long haulers out there.

And maybe go to India, Brazil and some parts of Canada.

The only thing that is saving the USA including its hospital system is the strong vaccine campaign initiated by President Trump. But, I worry people, like many on this board, won’t take the vaccine and more will get sick because they have bought into some ridiculous internet conspiracy theory.

I started studying Death Certificates a year ago, when the number of COVID deaths began to surge.

Several points...

(1) The CDC endorsed Death Certificate is very confusing. The top line is called Immediate Cause. In medical discussions, the top line is often referred to as the Terminal Event or the Proximate Cause.

(2) The bottom line is called the Underlying Cause of Death, or UCOD. There can be zero lines - or several more lines - between the Immediate Cause (top line) and the UCOD (bottom line).

(3) In theory, there is supposed to be a logical chain of medical events that begins with the UCOD (bottom line) and moves up to the Immediate Cause (top line).

(4) When I read or listen to medical experts discuss Cause of Death, I almost NEVER understand if they are referring to the top line Immediate Cause or to the bottom line UCOD.

(5) The doctor in this article states: “If COVID is on the Immediate Cause (top) line, it is clearly a COVID death.”

(6) That statement flatly contradicts what the CDC policy says! The CDC says COVID should be on the bottom line, which is the UCOD line.
