Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin bucked his own party's political operation in 2020 by endorsing a Republican. Now, he's doing it again.

The West Virginia senator is backing Alaska GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s reelection bid in the face of a pointed challenge from former President Donald Trump, whom Murkowski voted to convict of inciting an insurrection.

We're not fooled. Democrats like having a Republican they can count on for a vote when needed, and to provide a Democrat with cover when necessary.

If Murkowski votes for something, "moderate" democrats like Manchin can vote against it, pretend of course,to fool their constituents.

They also use willing Republicans to make things look "bipartisan" when it's just liberal Republicans voting for liberal legislation.

It's a game that's been played for years, but there aren't many compliant Republican senators left, so they want to keep the last few around.

I hear a lot about how Manchin is this 'conservative' Democrat.

I never see any conservative action, but I hear a lot about how conservative he is.

He’s a phony hick. Always has been. But they keep voting for the fake.

The only time Manchin sided with Republicans was when he voted to confirm Kavenaugh because that was RIGHT BEFORE the 2018 MidTerms. He then got re-elected and was safe until 2026. So he then voted TWICE to impeach Trump.

Murkowski is a RINO traitor. In fact, I have a feeling that since Murky knows she hasn't got a chance at re-election, she's going to go out in a "blaze of glory" and side with the Demons on DC statehood and court-packing.

You are most likely correct in Manchin wanting someone like Murky to coordinate votes with.

So, a politically unreliable Democrat comes out in support of a politically unreliable Republican.

Certain degree of symmetry there. Not so sure it is a good thing, except that this kind of duplicity is not necessarily confined to only one part of the spectrum of opinion.

Yes, all political theatre where the outcome is already pre-determined. Dems and Repubs are two sides of the same coin. Repubs just love being in the minority. They learned not a thing from Trump.

Think about it. If Trump runs in 2024 Manchin will also be running for re-election. He barely won in 2018.

That won’t count for much in Alaska; but maybe if Phony Joe gives her some money ...... ha ha ha do it, JOe, give her some money so her primary opponent can beat her over the head with it.

WV dumb-ass voters keep re-electing that hack Manchin. The blame is largely due to the fact NO STRONG republican challenger has been pitted against him. His 2012 challenger looked downright creepy (like Truman Capote). I hope Trump recruits a likeable conservative patriot to run against him. If Trump himself is not running in 2024, I hope he campaigns personally for Manchin’s opponent.

Democrats, Republicans, my rear end. Manchin and Murkowski are just similar shades of Uniparty purple. Everyone in DC is some shade of Uniparty.

You nailed it. Both Manchin and Murkowski are actors at the same Kabuki theater.

WV uses ES&S voting machines, but those can be Ranked Choice Voting enabled as well...

The Murk has gotta go.

There are a number of them.

Susan Collins has to go.

Mitt Romney has to go.

Liz Cheny has to go.

But these elitist idiots are deeply entrenched in the swamp. Their leaving will not be pretty or debonair. There will be no salutations of service well spent. Their exercise of raw power by virtue of dis;oyalty to the People is the point.

Good riddance to them all.

My biggest concern about her is that if she loses the primary to Kelly Tshibaka that she will run as a independent and siphon off GOP votes and we lose the seat because she’s a greedy beach

Frankly, I really don’t care. She’s an arrogant oligarch who needs to be replaced with somebody else. One way or the other.

They changed the election style in AK. No party primaries, it’s everyone runs together. Lil’ Lisa can’t switch parties or illegally run as a write-in after losing a party primary. She either makes the runoff outright or she loses. She won’t win this time.
