May not happen now, but it’s only a matter of time.
And when it happens, say goodbye to the Stars and Stripes.
Only in the fevered mind of a rabid Democrat would a middling sized city be considered a state.
Ping.
Why does nobody talk about giving the residential areas of DC back to Maryland, and then they would have congressional representation as part of Maryland?
That was easy , who did they pick for Governor ? LOL
What are the negatives of making DC a state?
The Democrats really don’t need DC. Red states are turning blue. But blue states are not turning red. So we will eventually become a one-party country with or without DC as a state.
Hopefully, the US Senate will kill it, again.
They should name if Barryton, after Marion Barry.
Marxists on the march!!!!
“ Washington, Douglas Commonwealth” in honor of abolitionist Frederick Douglass.”
Total unmitigated BS
It's unconstitutional, so even this USSC should kill it.
Unconstitutional. The federal district was created precisely so as NOT to be under the jurisdiction of ANY state. This concept is easy to get. I got it in high school.
If passed, it will be unconstitutional and invalid.
If we get back into power, perhaps we should consider dividing Wyoming into twelve different states.
It will be the first Fake State.
Wouldn’t the constitution have to be amended in order to make DC a state?
Won’t pass Senate. Next.
Nancy probably changed her Depends 5 or 6 time today with all the excitement
I thought they needed 218 vote to pass anything.
US Constitution:
“To exercise exclusive legislation in all cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten miles square) as may, by cession of particular states, and the acceptance of Congress, become the seat of the government of the United States, and to exercise like authority over all places purchased by the consent of the legislature of the state in which the same shall be, for the erection of forts, magazines, arsenals, dockyards, and other needful buildings;—And
To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof.
“
Nothing in there gives congress the power to create a State out of it.
