Why does nobody talk about giving the residential areas of DC back to Maryland, and then they would have congressional representation as part of Maryland?
Whether Puerto Rico or DC, they want to force us to change the flag.
I mean if you’re going to have to replace all the flags to add a new star, why not go all the way and do a total redesign to “better reflect the New America”.
I could see his ‘quietly’ pass. Becoming a state is not a hot button issue. The charge of race enters into it.
They want the 2 extra demonKKKrat senators.
Shut up racist!....is why.
But seriously, retrocession is EXACTLY how they split DC in half 170(ish)-years ago now. It’s the obvious answer to this ‘problem.’ Give it back to MD just like they gave the other half back to VA.
The ‘power-brokers’ of DC don’t want a Maryland-connection. They want an entire state government which they’d run.
I would add this...having lived around the region. As corrupted as Montgomery and PG counties are in Maryland...once DC is a state, it’ll probably triple the amount of corruption that you’d typically see. Whoever ends up as Governor...won’t last more than four years before a corruption case takes them down.
While that would provide the representation that they say they are seeking, it would not yield the additional 2 D senators that they so desparately want.
DC residents would be much better off being residents and citizens of Maryland.
Ask folks who moved out of DC to PG County and other jurisdictions in the area why.
I’m sure the deed or whatever legal document giving the land to the federal government has some kind of stipulation where this issue is addressed. Time to dig into the archives and find it to see what exactly can be done with that land. Maryland, I’m sure ceded the land with conditions. The Virginia part of DC was returned to Virginia a while back.
