Democrats have been pushing for years to have the District of Columbia officially recognized as the 51st state in America.
And on Thursday, they made that happen in a highly partisan vote.
The Democrat-controlled U.S. House of Representatives voted 216-208 on Thursday to pass a bill that would grant statehood to Washington, D.C.
H.R. 51, otherwise known as the Washington, D.C. Admission Act, would give the district two senators and a voting representative in the House.

I said goodbye on January 6th.
I mean by then you might as well be flying The Confederate Flag.
I really hope sanity returns

Me too. And although I’m relatively pessimistic, there’s still a chance that another Ronald Reagan might appear on the scene. But today’s media is much more partisan than it was in Reagan’s day. So that next Reagan had better be VERY media savvy (something that, unfortunately, Trump was not).
Yes.
Aside from all of the other constitutional issues already mentioned, the 23rd amendment, which awarded 3 special electoral votes to D.C., would have to be repealed as it would be in direct conflict with the existence of a coterminous D.C. state.
I am afraid you are correct.
Make Taiwan our 52nd state.
I agree.
At least they dropped Jesse Jackson's idiotic idea of calling it New Columbia. (Where is Old Columbia? And the initials would be the same as North Carolina's.)
If this passes they should make Delaware part of Pennsylvania again--what is the point of having that area as a separate state (other than to benefit credit card companies)? That would reduce the Democrats in the Senate by two to balance the new Democrats from DC.
It’s Joe Manchin’s chance to become filthy rich by playing hard to get.
We should split every Red State into a thousand States.
That “Good-Bye” already happened. Mark the date: 3 November, 2020.
Al Sharpton for Governor...
The Constitution is so old school...
Unconstitutional. Has to be a Constitutional amendment.
Constitution says it has to be 2 states at a time. This would never pass 75% of state legislatures which is required.
Simple bills out of Congress can’t be done.
But then again, Dems and Rinos don’t care about the Constitution.
To be sure, I respect Douglass and his work. It’s the pandering I don’t like and the obvious forcing of the name to match “DC”
Where does it say it has to be two states at a time? Before the Civil War it usually happened that one free state and one slave state were both admitted at about the same time...until 1850. Then California by itself. Later Nebraska by itself. Colorado by itself. Oklahoma by itself.
