Religions end up becoming made in the image the rulers of the day want it to be. Islam is the most obvious example. A perverted child molesting war monger becomes the man who can do no wrong in the religion he created. The Jewish religion seems to be the least affected by this which is why Jews are so successful and unfortunately hated by too damn many of the rest of the world.
