A year into a global pandemic has been good for gun sales, but the fear isn’t just Covid-19, warned Wahl.
“First of all, the government has scared the people,” Wahl told the Fergus Falls Journal. “Everyone is real afraid they won’t be able to find it so they are stocking up. They walk into stores and buy everything they can see. You’ll find it on the Internet at about four times the normal price.”
As first-time buyers rushed to purchase a firearm they also bought ammunition, and the downside for shooters is that it drove up ammunition prices to levels never seen before. At the same time, the pandemic led to a slowdown in production a year ago, and industry has been hard-pressed to meet the demand. As a result, store shelves remain largely empty.

Not to mention that many government agencies are buying up ammo, seemingly with the idea that they will need enough to kill every American several times over.
Hit one of the local gun shops yesterday. They had 5.56 ammo, 55 grain FMJ, Israeli manufactured. This time last year the same stuff was $250/m.
Now it’s $900.
I’m so glad I have been squirreling components away for years. Now I just have to make time to sit at the press.

I was ready...
I’ve already resold thousands of rounds at a considerable markup and have more to sell. I buy up what I can at reasonable prices when the stores have it.
I stockpiled brass, bullets, primers and powder so I can sell off the remaining ammo I have in calibers I reload for, which is most of those calibers I shoot
Isn’t capitalism grand!
👍
I think I paid $20 for a box of 9mm ammo in 2016. Now it is $50.
The theory that the government is buying it has been debunked by the ammo manufacturers. As a matter of fact, they’ve been buying less, since we’ve largely gotten out of Iraq and Afghanistan in the last 4 years.
The bankruptcy of Remington took on major manufacturer of ammo and primers out of the game completely. From what I’m hearing their ammo and primer division has been sold off and is preparing to restart production sometime soon, but it willtake time to get up to previous capacity and even longer to increase that capacity. Backlogs will take 12 to 24 months to clear, at which time prices will stabilize then retreat to something close to the good ol’ days. It depends on how many of us that hoarded and sold off go back to hoarding and at what volume.
The Ammo shortage of 2020 will turn out to be the Ammo shortage of 2020 to 2022, at least.

Where do you keep something like that?
I think Federal is currently filling a big military order. As soon as Pedo Joe and company are displaced and Mr. T returns to power ammo will level out.
In a safe, secure location.
Like I’m gonna say where on the Interwebs.....
“As soon as Pedo Joe and company are displaced and Mr. T returns to power ammo will level out.”
So, about three and a half years then.
Thanks,

In Socialist countries, hoarding is considered a crime. The Nazis would hear a rumor from an informer about a family that hoarded and they would burst in, turning the whole house inside out. Towards the end, hoarders were shot in the streets in front of their homes.

Yup, same here. But, I’ve still a lot of ammo from the last time we went through this. In fact, I’ve got two buckets of 22 rim fire that I’ll probably never shoot us. Guess I’ll give them to my nephews.
It must be a location thing. All my hunting shops have full shelves. More pricey? Yes. But everything is.
Not so. It is the civilian consumption which is driving this. Have friends in the big ammo business and they confirm this.
You can find Russian .223 on Ammoseek for around $0.6 per round in batches of 1K. Not saying it’s a bargain, but if all you need is plinking or home-defense ammo the Russian stuff is pretty good.

Never say never, my friend. I found two .30 ammo cans full of Federal .22 hollow points at the back of a closet recently. Must be six or seven thousand rounds. I plan on using that to keep my skills sharp.
And when The Crash happens the rest will come in handy for one reason or another.
