As the Cleveland Indians prepared for their home opener Monday under attendance limits set by Gov. Mike DeWine, the governor abruptly changed spectator capacity rules for Progressive Field and other outdoor venues in Ohio.
It’s now up to the Indians to readjust based on the new regulations, which eliminate state rules that outdoor venues can only open at 30% capacity but still require spectators to sit in groups of 10 people or fewer spaced apart from each other.
It’s still unclear exactly how many people will be allowed at Progressive Field now that an Ohio Department of Health order issued Monday lifts the 30% capacity limit. But outdoor seating capacity will likely remain below pre-pandemic levels because of the social-distancing rules, according to DeWine spokesman Dan Tierney.
Tierney stated via text Monday that he couldn’t comment on whether the Indians knew beforehand that the changes to attendance limits were coming. The state health department, he wrote, “communicates regularly” with the Indians and other “stakeholders” with large venues.
Attendance at indoor sports venues, theaters and other entertainment centers is still limited to 25% of the facility’s capacity, state health director Stephanie McCloud said during the governor’s coronavirus briefing Monday, on the grounds that “the (health) risk is higher indoors.”
The order, signed by McCloud, also allows festivals, parades, proms, graduations, county fairs, and other mass gatherings in Ohio to once again be held so long as proper coronavirus health precautions are followed...

Indians have a real headache, now that they can only be watched on an obscure and costly AT&T service. 85 bucks a months to watch a team which traded or sold off all its good players, killed off its beloved century-old Chief Wahoo, and made it impossible for fans to have a good time in person. I think the Cleveland Baseball Team when it is no longer the Indians after this disastrous season will also no longer be in Cleveland.
