Maybe they are referring to the rocks it was carved from.

The bedrock of the Giza Plateau is somewhere between about 30-50 MILLION years old.

Lol!

Looks like my Aunt Sadie from Cleveland Ohio!

Just kidding. I don’t have an Aunt Sadie.
But if I did she’d probably look just like that.

The Sphinx might be over 8,000 years old based on the evidence of water erosion pushing its age back to a wet period in Egypt some 14,000 years ago. It was also possibly re-carved over its lifetime, starting out as a statue of the god Anubis. Scale-wise, the current head of the Sphinx is small for the body.

I was talking with Forest, attempting to explain this gibberish to him. He replied “Stupid is as stupid does.”

I expect that the Sphinx was originally a lion and that the pharaoh's head was carved later from the deteriorated lion's head. For one thing, the head today is too small for the body.

I also suspect that such monuments were scattered over the surface of the earth, the Sphinx representing Leo, others representing the other figures of the zodiac, and that the remains of some of them will one day be recognised.

The earth has a way of devouring everything. The wonder is that remnants of ancient civilisations can still be recognised.

Actually, I wondered that. So the ice age never hit Egypt like the rest of the world. Interesting.

The northern ice sheets of the last ice age only went so-far south. Here in New York City they only made it to southern New York.

If that was built it would never have lasted very long. The nose would have fallen, if it could have been built at all. The ears would have decayed as well. Structurally it just would have not held up, built of stones.

I actually climbed the first 3 blocks of the largest pyramid.

Had no idea it was illegal. Quickly got off when warned by a local trying to get me to ride his camel that I would be arrested.

Thankfully no one else saw me.

My claim to fame......

Seemed old to me, but not 800,000 years......

The Sphinx in Egypt is a monument to the Mazzaroth.

Seiss wrote an excellent book on the subject called “The Gospel In The Stars.” pdf

According to this tradition, pre-flood shepherds lying in the fields with their flocks could look into the sky and tell their sons about the coming Redeemer using these constellations as their guide. In those days the knowledge of Life in the Garden was still contained in the memory of man, and this helped them understand that one day we’ll all be back there.

As I said, the Mazzaroth was corrupted into Babylonian Astrology. The reason that the Tower of Babel was destroyed is because it was devoted to the study of astrology. This has been confirmed by the presence of astrological signs among its ruins. Astrology was punishable by death in Israel because it denied the Gospel story. (The study of Astrology was referred to as an “observer of times” in Deut. 18:9-10). Today nearly every language contains names for the 12 signs of the Zodiac that have their roots in the Hebrew Mazzaroth.

To my knowledge, the age of the Sphinx has not been determined, but some scientists claim that the particular type or erosion it has suffered indicates that it spent a period of time under water. That would seem to be supported by the pre-flood origins of the Mazzaroth.

The above answer was from Jack Kelley's web site Grace Thru Faith.

He also did a study of the Great Pyramid that is very interesting.

I buy the arguement that the sphinx is pre dynastic egyptian because of the water erosion around the edges of the pit. But that still only puts it in the 3000-4000 BC range because the rains didn’t stop in the sahara until about 3500 BC. Prior to that the whole area was a green savannah—with some huge lakes dotting much of north africa. This transition from wet to dry about 3500 BC is pretty well documented. It happened over the course of only about 100 years. Its thought that the trade winds shifted south about that time.

Anyhow, after 3500 BC there wouldn’t be any rain to cause the erosion in the pit around the sphinx. Hence the dating for the sphinx would be prior to roughly 3500 BC.

The issue of the damage from rain water is interesting. Also it is conceivable that the Sphinx was recut to its current form at some ancient times. But 800k?

The first humans left Africa 60,000 years ago. Homo Sapiens are about 250,000 years old. So they are saying that this is older than the Neanderthals. Monkeys made it. Or spacemen?
