I saw my first lowrider in Chula Vista, CA back in 1978 - it was a 1956 Nomad with lime green metalflake paint and a chromed chain steering wheel about 6" in diameter.
He was next to me at a traffic signal, looked over and I gave him the thumbs up - he proceeded to raise his front end about a foot and took off as the light turned.
