Truth And Lies In A Digital Media Era: Discerning truth in a social media age is increasingly difficult but we can do it if we ask the right questions.

In Sir Walter Scott’s epic, but mostly forgotten, poem, “Marmion: A Tale of Flodden Field,” Scott penned his famous couplet: “Oh what a tangled web we weave / When first we practice to deceive.” Those lines resonate today when Americans are submerged in an ideological fog of artificial truth thanks to the American media. In step with them are digital social media platforms. In addition, our universities, political class, and elites are foisting information that is laden with lies and half-truths to promote their social and political agenda -- and they are doing it with some considerable success.

These outlets’ lies and half-truths obscure the beacon of Truth. The American news media (not far removed from the old Soviet Pravda) and the digital social platform providers intentionally deceive their viewers by dishonestly substituting their reality for historical reality.

A good allegory to illustrate substituting a fraudulent reality for actual reality can be found in the Allegory of the Cave that the Greek philosopher, Plato, used to illustrate the power of misdirection.

In today’s ever-growing secular, a-historical society, many are coming to replace knowledge of our history with the idea that it is no longer important and has no relevance. What is now truly important is a false truth, not knowledge that is based on Truth.

Marcel Eck, a French existentialist in, Lies and Truth, wrote that we know certain things exist because there is tension toward them. Truth is one of those things that even though we cannot see it, we know exists because of tension toward it. Think of Truth as an obelisk that is lighted from many directions. Certainly, we all stand in a separate shadow of the Truth.

We can never know an absolute Truth but we will certainly not come anywhere near it if we allow fake shadows masquerading as Truth to deceive us.

But Plato’s Cave does not anticipate deep fake technology that is going to make it very difficult to distinguish between real and fake.

When Dan Bongino begins his 3 hour radio show in a few weeks, it will be great entertainment to hear him showering derision and ridicule on the pampered clowns in the so-called MSM.

Lots of material for Dan to quote with extreme sarcasm as he truth checks their “truth”. These fascist wanna-be’s are open targets for Dan’s skill set. He will have an informed audience laughing at the deceitful, arrogant MSM fools.

Nothing like being laughed at and exposed, and being done so in a manner such that there is no available cover (ie excuse) for the “mistake”.

His recent podcast reveal of all the conspirators involved in the recent WashPost “mistake” (mistake? give me a break) was brutal.

The more the MSM actors are laughed at the better. There is much material to be mined and enjoyed at their expense. These fools built it. KNOWINGLY!

At its dawn, I was naive enough to believe that the Information Age would bring knowledge, education, and enlightenment to all the people of the world and usher in a world-wide golden age of liberty and justice for all, of the American Dream at last uplifting all the people of the world.

I didn't imagine, though I should have, its dark side: the potential for propaganda, the inevitable abuse by the evil and the unenlightened, its threat of tyranny, and the possibility of its bringing to reality George Orwell's terrifying nightmare.

Today, I see the nightmare unfolding before my eyes in, of all places, the United States of America.

The American Dream has become George Orwell's Nightmare.

There is no such thing as correct information, only the best information.
