“I’ve had several family members and friends that have had very bad reactions to the vaccine...Think I’ll wait a while.”
Some people are saying that the vaccine is the first half of a binary biological weapon, the second half to be released when enough people have been “vaccinated.”
” COVID causes many more deaths than car accidents or the flu in a given year”
Umm, in order for that statement to even begin to be sensible you would need to have data on COVID for more than a single year. It would also help if it wasn’t a year when flu deaths just magically dropped to zero for mysterious reasons.
Morons.
Daily cases below 40,000 for the first time since around last September

“Covid-19 has, so far...killed 542,995 in the US.”
Road apples. Here in CO alone substantial numbers of deaths from gunshot wounds have been reported as ‘rona deaths.
It’s impossible to calculate the actual number of deaths with any degree of certitude, but we do know it’s nowhere near half a million.
LOL! You are a ill-informed person, according to this article.
The article tells you 1-5% of COVID-19 sufferers wind up in a hospital bed. From prior admission data, about 20% of those admitted with COVID-19 wind up in an ICU. A reasonable number of those in the ICU make it out alive.
Your numbers are from those who were admitted to the ICU. Go look it up.
“And they hurt the reelection of President Trump, enormously.”
Trump got re-elected in a landslide, so they couldn’t have hurt him much.
You are only off by a factor of 33X - 165X of those admitted to an ICU, to create the stats you believe.
“Congratulations on completing your statistical and risk literacy test!
Your numeracy score is better than about 75-100% of all college educated individuals. Roughly, this means that out of every 100 people who take the test, you will do better than about 90% (90 people) of all other people. This is the highest score one can receive on this test.”
Do I get a cookie?
Exactly. 100%.
COVID is $14,000.00 worth of serious. If you’re a hospital administrator or coroner in a big blue city, you can make some serious cash reporting deaths as COVID. Seriously.
If you’re a governor of a blue state and useless old people are costing you money, ...

I get what you are saying, and I don't disagree.
But I submit it isn't worth arguing about with your Dem (dim?) friends and relatives because they are likely very wrong when it comes to even the hard numbers that are beyond dispute .
68% of Dems think more than 20% of people who get C-19 end up in the hospital because of it. The worse case scenario born by stats on hospitalizations-- no matter how flawed those stats might be in terms of possibly counting people who test positive for C-19 while in the hospital for an emergency appendectomy or whatever-- is 5%.
Thus, the reality about hospitalizations is magnitudes of difference from what the average Dem thinks it is.
I would start here when talking to them about this. Maybe it will open the door and they will start wondering about your points some other day. Bring up the stats on tests, cases, and hospitalizations from your state's dashboard from your state's department of health website. Go through the math with them that shows the hospitalization rate to be about 5% -- after asking them what they think the rate is.
Find some other stats to compare this to give them some perspective.
For instance, I wonder what percentage of people who are involved in a car accident where the car it totaled end up in the hospital for at least one night for observation due to a head injury or serious seatbelt bruising.

(Includes those who were hospitalized who used the special app to self report: From 4,182 incident cases of COVID-19, 2.6% reported that any remaining symptom existed at the 12 week mark.)

“Sequelae in Adults at 6 Months After COVID-19 Infection”
(Includes hospitalizations and survey recipients self-reported: From 177 cases of COVID-19, about 30% reported that any remaining symptoms existed between 31 and 300 days. This was not statistically relevant, according to authors.)
