Paul Cassell, a former U.S. District Court and law professor at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law, dubbed this the “Minneapolis Effect,” in research that he conducted on the phenomenon.
“Specifically, law enforcement agencies have been forced to divert resources from normal policing to patrolling demonstrations,” Cassell wrote. “And even as the anti-police protests have abated, police officers have scaled back on proactive or officer-initiated law enforcement, such as street stops and other forms of policing designed to prevent firearms crimes.”
In his research, Cassell estimated that due to this shift in policy and in the effort to answer calls to defund the police, many people were killed who wouldn’t have been otherwise.

Anyone with any common sense realizes that defunding the police is insane, but I think Portland should go ahead and defund the police, let the city continue to sink into total anarchy...
Anybody who is not a democrat realizes without Portland Oregon as an example, that defunding the police is a very stupid idea!

Most stable, rational people knew this without the need to test to see what would happen. IMO, the only thing this proves is that liberalism is a form of functional mental illness.

Common sense has been bred out of the populace. The elites are ones who were able to memorize the books and put the answers on a test. Those of us who had to think things through to get a mission accomplished are fast going by the wayside.

I could be completely wrong, but the only way to start turning that mentality around is for more and more people see the complete disaster of some of these ideas.....
Anyone in Portland with any common sense will leave, the city will turn into a complete disaster....we all need to see complete devastation that will follow...
IMHO there somewhere is a middle ground between defunding and militarizing to the point of being the Stazi.
As most of the ideas of the Left turn out to be.
Portland is the ‘test tube’ for the rest of the country. How much are the people willing to put up with before they stop this nonsense? That goes for Portland, but it tells us about the rest of the country as well.
Guys, this isn’t about defunding.
It’s about driving out the older, more experienced, better trained LE personnel who aren’t willing to violate their fellow citizens’ Constitutional rights.
And that’s happening.
And those personnel are being replaced with woke snowflakes willing to do anything for a paycheck and bennies.
So LE will be funded.
And we’ll be paying for our own LE to oppress us.
Defunding is a means, NOT the goal.
And the ultimate goal is the federal takeover of all LE.
Police were defunded so as to allow America’s #1 privileged minority to run wild, to destroy the trappings of capitalism, to steal from the Man, and to kill a few of them. It accomplished what they wanted it to.
The picture at the link shows a black power fist raised in triumph over a building in flames. That is a perfect illustration of what this is all about. The preferred group of privilege is being allowed to destroy capitalism and the people who built up our civilization.
Rule #1 for cops everywhere: Go home to your wife and kids at the end of your shift. No cop in their right mind polices agressively ( the type of policing that stops crimes and saves lives) in urban America.
Again, I could be completely wrong, but I think we are a long way from the limits of what people will put up with, until we reach that point we are in for a world of pain...
The reasonable people left in Portland need to leave now otherwise they will get caught up in the crossfire of the chaos.....
I think it needs to happen, thankfully enough of the alternative media exists that the story will get out because we know as things get worse the MSM will not tell the true story...
I would not care what would happen to Portland if they continue to get rid of the police department. Their choice. At some point good natured people, too kind to bother others, will take the matters into their own hands and SSS.
