Many Americans on the Right and Left worry about the power of Silicon Valley’s tech titans. It seems these very large companies have become a power unto themselves and answer virtually to no one. They believe it is their right to censor thoughts and ideas, and restrict the flow of information according to whatever standards they desire.
They also make astronomical profits, which gives them the freedom to buy almost whatever they want—be it to stomp on any upstart competitor that looks like a threat, or to curry favor with politicians, media, and thought leaders of all stripes. But this is also their Achilles heel.
How would it be if we could set up a process to take the profit out of social media and search and to thus forever free us from these tyrants?

Does anyone really need Facebook or twitter? Why? At least Amazon sells stuff, but we can get rid them by shopping locally, and in local stores.
I don’t even have a smart phone. I don’t have those social media accounts.
I have had the same phone number for 25 years. If someone can’t reach me, they are not supposed to
Also, you can buy directly from the maker.
Amazon is for research only
Yes, boycotts work.
Start with boycotting Amazon.
They have a list of people they don’t do business with.
You can order, pay for it and they don’t send it-especially if it has to do with Trump. I know. Quit ordering from them before the election.
Got rid of Facebook years ago.
I doubt that their reach can be curtailed given how people are addicted to social media, instant feedback, etc. let’s say the powers that be wanted to curtail or restrict access to this site. They simply “remove” the dns entry that translate the domain name to an IP address and viola...typing in free republic doesn’t resolve and this site can’t be found. They aren’t restricting free speech or anything but you would need to know the IP address for free republic to get to it. Oh and dns lookup won’t work either since fr is no longer the lookup table.
Supposedly a separate entity manages dns tables but is a private company I believe so who’s to say the won’t do as described above if a site is deemed untruthfull according to some monitoring group.
It’s one thing to say you won’t do social media....but what would you call FR...?? You get your s check deposited to your bank electronically...you are using the ‘net...you pay any bills you online....you use the ‘net. In short we as a society use the ‘net way more than many of us realize.
I NEVER EVER pay for anything online and I don’t do personal business or ANY business on line. The only site I visit is FR
No twitter and no FB
Left Amazon.
It's kind of difficult to make an impact when only 20% boycott.
