The Democrats Have a Secret Plan to Get a $15 Minimum Wage
National Interest ^ | 3/4/2021 | Rachel Greszler

As Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee said, “We couldn’t get in the front door or the back door, so we’ll try to go in through the window.” He claimed that, “The American people elected Democrats to get things done, and they aren’t going to accept ‘process’ as an excuse for failing to [enact a $15 minimum wage].”

The “process” that Sen. Wyden brushes aside as an “excuse” refers to a U.S. law that governs what can be included in budget reconciliation bills that bypass the Senate Filibuster and thus allow for a simple fifty-one-vote majority to pass a law, instead of the usual sixty vote requirement.

So after failing to include a job-killing $15 nationwide minimum wage in their partisan coronavirus package, Sen. Wyden and Sen. Bernie Sanders came up with a “Plan B.” It would “impose a 5 percent penalty on a big corporations’ total payroll if any workers earn less than a certain amount,” resulting in potentially multi-billion-dollar penalties on companies for employing even one worker at a wage lower than some lawmakers arbitrarily deem appropriate (presumably $15 per hour).

"..we haven't tanked the economy yet...however, this might put us over the top.."

Wasn't so long ago we were touting President Trump fueling the race to 30,000 on the DJIA....

Now we have biden and the race to 30,000 except in the opposite direction. So depressing...

Why the rush? All the ILLEGALS Biden is letting in will work for far less, for cash and off the books.

Raising the minimum wage in the past has not tanked the economy. This is NOT the hill to die on.

The government does not have the right to set a maximum or minimum hourly rate of pay for all.

It will hurt their base by killing low paying jobs.

There are already so many small businesses out in my medium-sized town. This should do in the rest of the them so only WalMart will be left standing.

A Federal minimum wage is stupid, because the cost of living varies so much around the country.

I looked up the average state cost of living index. If the country as a whole is taken to be 100 on average, Mississippi’s cost of living is 87, and Hawaii’s is 197. California is quite high also... IIRC, around 165.

So $15 is too much in some areas, and too little in others. In places where it is too high, it is harmful, depressing employment and burdening businesses. In places where it is too low, it is irrelevant.

And they know that. I haven’t heard anyone dispute the CBO analysis that this will cause a net loss in jobs. But they don’t care. “Fight for 15” SOUNDS so appealing. The fact that it will cause people to lose their jobs is just not part of the calculus.

If a worker wants to get paid $15 or more an hour, they need to develop the skills that opens those doors and then go where those jobs are.

It should NOT be the government’s responsibility nor purview to mandate wages on a federal level - but in these socialist times nothing will stop them - must control the peasants don’t you know !

There is no rule, no restriction, or no standard that cannot be cast aside in tearing down our culture and promoting the poisonous socialist model.

The American people elected Democrats? Seems like the Dimmocommies elected themselves, through various forms of fraud. And the American people "elected Democrats to get things done"? You mean, like destroying tens of thousands of jobs, make us dependent on hostile nations for energy once more, destroy our national sovereignty, inflict illegal criminal invaders on us to suck us dry and vote illegally? You mean those things?
