Big Tech’s efforts to restrict user access to various Internet platforms are a serious challenge, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with leaders of parliamentary factions on Wednesday.
He responded to the recent statements made by Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the State Duma (lower house), who put the spotlight on Big Tech’s violation of freedom of speech.
“What you said about these so-called platforms, IT companies, is a serious challenge not only for us – we see what has happened in the [United] States,” Putin noted. According to him, it is quite obvious that such an “ideological divide” runs throughout the world.
“If they behave like that in their country, then how will they treat others, given that they consider themselves exceptional? This is a serious issue. And, of course, we should think about how to deal with it,” the Russian leader reasoned.
And it didn’t take long for Russia to take measures against the big tech.
This morning the Russian Federation Council, has passed a law on fines for censorship against Russian media and citizens.
The law will also be extended to Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube in response to censorship against Russian media on foreign social networks.
Australia also started a fight against the big tech!
Australian officials say they’re forging ahead with efforts to make tech giants pay for news content even after Facebook imposed a media blackout there.
“We’ll be proceeding with the code,” Communications Minister Paul Fletcher told Australia’s ABC News on Thursday. “We want Google and Facebook to stay in Australia, but we’ve been very clear that if you do business in Australia you need to comply with the laws passed by the elected parliament of this nation.”

They're also probably one of the few countries not bribed by big tech, unlike everywhere else.
But many countries like Australia and India are starting to get pretty mad at big tech, so that's a good sign at least.
Reign in Big Tech!
So, I have to go to Russia for real freedom? Who’d a thunk it?
Russia is ahead of the USA on this one. Here, the government is forbidden to restrict free speech, which it resents, and farms out the job to corporations. It then allows those corporations to destroy free speech and gives them full support.
Another one of your many blogs.
For foreigners, its really a national security issue, and if it wasn’t obvious before - its obvious now.
Allowing deep-state controlled, American social media to unfettered access to your population is a social and security risk. If they will conduct a “color revolution” against the USA’s own President, what will they do against you?
To put it in 20th century terms - would you allow these oligarchs total control over your newspaper and TV outlets?
Has Putin been colluding with Hillsdale College?
You know it’s bad when Russia is ahead of us on this subject.
Russia values freedom of speech more than America.
US 2021 in a nutshell: Stolen election Lawmakers doctored evidence RIP freedom of speech Oppression of Trump & Trump supporters Want to eradicate MAGA peeps & send their kids to re-education camps Burn Conservatives’ books
The Rooskies know the deal....
Who would ever have thunk it that we’d sink so low that Russia is more pro free speech than we are.
China Joe and Heels up Harris are counting their bribe money as we speak.
Russia has some very painful, past experience that stifling freedom of speech and expression always has a way of coming back and biting you in the ass. It may take several decades, but it always happens...
Very good.
The Russian law was nothing like the Australian law. Australia wanted to impose a massive tax on Facebook for allowing Australian media to be posted. They then act shocked when Facebook says “Fine, we won’t let Australian media be posted.” It’s like imposing massive sale tax on potatoes then acting shocked when people stop buying potatoes.
SMH
By the way, I hate hearing there is more freedom in Russia than there is here.
I saw a video a few years back called LINK: "Russian Motorcycle Rock Band"
My first thought was: "I wouldn't be able to go a mile on a highway in this country doing this. There would probably be a State Police helicopter on me so fast it would make my head spin."
Never mind how dangerous it is, or how out of inspection specifications the motorcycle may have been modified to do this, but...the fact remains we have a nanny state here watching all we do. And by definition, that limits our freedom.
Sad.
Poland passed a similar law. The leaders of Germany, Mexico and France have expressed similar sentiments. Foreign. Politicians were not at all pleased to see how Twitter banned President Trump. They know it could be done to them too. Big Tech screwed up.
Russia and Poland.
And the EU is trying to destroy Poland.
Back in 2015, I was thinking the Political Elite reason for opposing Trump was to avoid a unified Russia-USA.
I’m now pretty convinced this was at least part of the reason.
Let us know when the fines are implemented and collected.
The sad reality is that they removed communism and we are getting closer to communism!
