“And the creation turned on the creator.”

Makes me think of the ignorant Antifa scum who want to kill the same dried up old white liberals like Pelosi, Schumer, Clinton, etc. even though it was those dirtbags who essentially created and funded Antifa.

I enjoyed that movie immensely back when it came out, and have thought about it recently.

Good Review, LS!

(especially the use of three seashells for, er, cleaning onesself after a #2).

I've heard that the seashells were an inside joke about the wife of one of the screenwriters having decorative shells in their bathroom and the witers could not figure out why.

Great, underrated sci-fi movie. But I would have loved to see someone like Schwarzenegger as Simon Phoenix.

I have yet to see a museum where that much live ammunition is kept.

The author repeatedly says ‘Reiner’ in place of what should be ‘Schneider ‘. It’s very distracting.

Awesome! I'm a long time fan of this movie for that very reason. I used to say this movie is our future. The author is spot on but left out some very important scenes.

First both the police and the public have been disarmed and the only place you can even view a gun is in a museum. So what is the very first act the evil villain Simon Phoenix does? Well he goes to a museum of course and steals a gun!

(never let a crisis go to waste)

The community organizer of this wonderful society Dr. Cocteau describes how he took over as dictator with this line.

"Civilization tried to destroy itself. The city degenerated into a total fear zone. The citizenry cocooning in their homes, afraid to go out. People just wanted the madness over. When I saw the chance to make things right... ...I seized it."

Then we have the polar opposite leader of the underground free world "Edgar Friendly". He states his politics very simply with this line.

"See, according to Cocteau's plan, I'm the enemy. Cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kind if guy who wants to sit in a greasy spoon and think, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol. I want to eat bacon, butter and buckets of cheese, okay? I want to smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in a non-smoking section. I wanna run through the streets naked with green Jello all over my body reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to. Okay, pal?"

John Spartan is taken out of the deep freeze and reports for duty to the police station where he befriends Lenina Huxley (Bullock).

Have never seen the film - but applaud the sly literary reference here ("Lenina" was a popular woman's name in Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World").

I would say there are way to many Dr. Cocteau types.

Not just this movie. I have been saying for quite a few years now, “Who knew IDIOCRACY was a documentary.”
