Russia accused the West on Wednesday of descending into hysteria over the jailing of opposition politician Alexei Navalny, and the Kremlin said police had been right to use force to break up protests over his imprisonment.
A Moscow court on Tuesday sentenced the prominent critic of President Vladimir Putin to three and a half years for parole violations he said were trumped up to sideline him, ignoring calls from the West and protesters at home to release him.
Navalny’s supporters tried to gather to show support during the ruling and then took to the streets afterwards to protest it, prompting authorities to shut down some central metro stations and detain more than 1,400 people, according to a protest monitor.
Around 80 journalists were arrested in Russia over the weekend amid continued protests against the detainment of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, according to the free expression nonprofit PEN America.
And a video from yesterday shows Russian riot police attacking a journalist with a baton.

If you go chasing down cops in the middle of a riot you will probably get thumped.
If a journalist acts like a rioter, beat their ass like a rioter.
Fake news, fake attack....Why not?
I see a lot of Russian new directly out of Moscow, you have no idea what’s going on there. Mass riots in over 130 cities, police/military are brutal. I give the Russian people credit. They see how much Putin is corrupted , what he is doing to Navalny and they try do something about it. On the other hand, our election was blatantly stolen, the evil doers are just as corrupt as Putin is and we do nothing.
Why is a “journalist” within reaching distance of a riot cop?

I can’t see what led up to the journalist being conked on the head, but, generally speaking, in police vs. “journalists”, I’ll side with the police.
How is what Putin did to Navalny any different than what the left tried to do to Gen. Flynn? Which of course just makes your point.
Who do I trust less - Putin, or mainstream corporate media??
Its a complete toss-up.
It is a second ‘victim’ of the police violence, another is a wrench kicked for interfering with the arrest in SPb last week.
