Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Friday evening announced the impeachment trial for Trump will begin the week of February 8th.
.... Snip....
The swamp knows that Trump won the 2020 election and still has a solid base of tens of millions of supporters so they are working to bar Trump from ever running for office.
The House voted 232-197 to impeach Trump last week – 10 Republican traitors joined the Democrats and voted in favor of impeachment.
Speaker Pelosi will send the articles of impeachment to the senate on Monday.
Pelosi and the Democrats have accused Trump of “inciting an insurrection”
...... Snip.....
According to reports, McConnell privately says he wants Trump gone – the DC elites are pressuring Republicans to impeach private citizen Trump.

what if Trump is out of country, as some seem to think he is?
He’s always welcome in the Free Republic of Texas.
(THIS is one of the reasons they’re keeping the NG in Washington until at least March.)
Bingo! They’re terrified of an uprising of Trump supporters invading Washington during his impeachment trial.
It’s because he is. In reality, he won.
What compels private citizen Trump to even take part in this farce? He was impeached without due process, in an unseemly hurry. Why should he even dignify this mess with his presence?
They are trying to destroy or kill him. Make them really work for it.
“They” are treating Trump like he is still President. It is weird.
“ if he’s allowed a defense”
At this point I think that’s rather unlikely.
The only thing I can think of (and this is offered as a devils advocate proposition) is the old idiom “silence implies assent” where a failure of one party to defend itself gives credence to the assumption of guilt.
I’m not a lawyer and do not know if this has any merit.
Oh, I think they’ll find the means and methods to keep the NG in Washington a lot longer than March. It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good.
The chief justice is the one who has to preside.
If Trump files in Federal court, he has to recuse because it will get to his level eventually.
The problem with that argument is that he (Trump) was denied due process in the house.
Another unconstitutional issue.
“It’s pretty straightforward. Just like Edmund Ruffin pulling the lanyard that fired the first shot in Fort Sumter.”
He may have fired the first shot IN Fort Sumter IF he was stationed there after the Confederates occupied it after Major Anderson surrendered the Fort.
But he was NOT the first Confederate to “pull the lanyard” AGAINST Ft. Sumter on April 12, 1861. Ruffin was a shameless self-promoter, and he may have claimed that distinction. But Ruffin was on Morris Island when Sumter was shelled, and the first acknowledged shot came from Fort Johnson on James Island.
“ The chief justice is the one who has to preside”
Not true. He only has to preside when the accused is the President. Trump is not the President.
“ It’s because he is. In reality, he won”
Presidents are chosen by the electoral college, which choice is ratified by the Congress. There are no Presidential elections in the Constitution.
WEEELLLLL..maybe and maybe not. He was impeached when he was president.
Does not matter anyway, it a classic Bill of Attainder.
Under what authority can the U.S. Senate put a private citizen on trial?
I’m listening to Mark Levin right now. He’s saying they can’t.
Correct. I’m listening to Mark Levin right now. He says if John Roberts recuses himself that even Kamala Harris could preside over the trial. My jaw dropped when he said that.
Yeah, of course they can't.
Imagine if some John or Joan Q citizen gets indicted somewhere in America.
The Senate can't put that citizen on trial.
They don't have that authority.
What's frightening, is that many people...even on our "side" are proceeding as if this is a legitimate process and it's only a matter of debate on whether to convict him or not.
It would be totally illegal and Unconstitutional to boot if they proceed and would be yet another example of the (D)'s transparent lawlessness.
“ Under what authority can the U.S. Senate put a private citizen on trial?”
Article I section 4.
Kaagaroo court indeed but this is such an easy layup for the defense team just playing Maxine waters speech in front of the senate then showing all the prominent gop officials literally attacked in restaurants including Mitchy boy himself
