It was a set-up. It was a scheme to create a way for McConnell and Pelosi to rid the DC swamp of its worst enemy- Donald Trump. They wanted things back the way they were when the swamp creatures were in charge of everything.
Those riots always bugged me. Something wasn't right. The fences were breached a full 20 minutes before Trump finished speaking. The press still fails to report that Trump asked for a "peaceful" protest.
But there's more. A lot more.

On January 11 it was reported that the head of the Capitol police, was rebuffed in his effort to get reinforcements to protect the Capitol

Sund’s remarks were in contrast with those from officials in other branches of government, who said after Trump’s supporters stormed into the Capitol building last Wednesday that they could have provided more people to secure it – but no one from the Capitol Police asked.
Sund told the newspaper in an interview he had asked House and Senate security officials for permission to request that the National Guard be placed on standby in case he needed quick backup but his request was turned down.

On January 12 the Washington Post reported that the FBI knew in advance of the threat of violence

"The question I have is what did Nancy Pelosi, what did Mitch McConnell know about these threats beforehand?" he asked. "If they didn't know, it's an intelligence failure of the police. At this point who doesn’t know it was a set up. Most of us knew it days in advance. Just like we knew they would cheat the election. They do it and right in your face. Look guys and girls, they have telegraphed everything they have done has been deliberate and in the open for everyone to see. I promise you more democrats know it but won’t admit knowing it because there guy is in office. Maybe over 75% of Americans know it.

Trump had to know what was coming, that’s why he delayed his speech. Antifa/BLM was already at the Capitol before the speech ended.
Impeachment starts next week. Query: can Trump’s lawyers introduce the mountains of election fraud evidence into the Senate record in his defense?
It is one thing to bring an action (burden of proof, etc.) but it is entirely different defending against one. AFAIK, no court has accepted election fraud evidence to date, but in those cases Trump was the challenger. Here he is defending himself. Due process rights attach.

With the squishy marshmallow-man John Roberts in charge of the trial, any evidence that helps President Trump may be disallowed. A definite case of "railroading" seems to be on the agenda.
Yet the crystal-clear evidence that Pelosi and McConnell anticipated--in fact, sought--some kind of crowd action at the capitol that would damage the Trump cause can and will be entered into the record by Trump's defense.
What the media and the public does with this unimpeachable evidence of collusion by anti-Trump forces to besmirch and falsly criminalize a sitting President is anybody's guess.

Noteworthy among the McConnell contributors are four of the top executives of Fox Corp., the piece of the Robert Murdoch media empire that operates Fox News as well as movies, sports, radio, and TV broadcast divisions. The four executives — Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan Murdoch, Charles “Chase” Carey, and Viet Dinh — have made unprecedented donations to McConnell’s campaign but apparently have not given a penny to Trump. As first noted by Nick Surgey of Documented, and later mentioned by New Yorker writer Jane Mayer in an NPR interview, the Fox executives represented four of McConnell’s five biggest individual donors in the first quarter of 2020. These donations raise a host of questions that have not been otherwise reported or explored.
They both hate Trump, so yeah, they probably knew, and rejoiced when the chaos ensued.
