Let us quickly impeach the British! It is long overdue!
Ever wonder why the British did all that and just left? Me too.
It turns out that Madison coveted some of Canada’s natural resources and tried to annex part of it. This was the British response.
The War of 1812 could be called Madison’s Folly.
The didn’t ‘try’ to burn it... They did. A rainstorm and hurricane the next day saved most of the buildings.
For many historians, the violence stemming from the storming of the U.S. Capitol on January 6 brought to mind the pivotal year of 1814>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Pearl clutching bull shit. Less tha 2000 people , radicals from both the right and left brole a few windows and dooors and entered Congress. This after four years of continuous Cobgressional attempts to usurp a duly elected Presdent of the United States. We are fortunate that the so called Insurrectionists, rewally just rioters, walked through the Cogressional rotunda properly between the lines established by floor rope and brass stands. There was no arson ,or looting inside.
So how can in fact the fact that Americans entered the Peoples House when not invited be compared to an act of war by the British, and the burning of the capitol by British Forces.
Simple really.
The left continues to look for ways to historically support their massive over reach to deprogram, harass, and violate the Civil Rights of Trump supporters, staff and voters. This cannot be sustained. If it is, the next crowd of invaders in Congress will not stop so politely, and the populist movement will simply be re - created vastly stronger than it is now.
And these so called historians? They can be called histrionicans, revisionists, pearl clutchers and psychopomps. Their over reach is worth less than a turd on a stick recently wrenched from the new Presidential arse.
Partly in retaliation for the Americans burning their way across Ontario, Canada...
July 19, 1813 my widowed 4th great grandmother’s house was burnt in St David’s...luckily she still had the barn to live in ...most of the people in the village were not so lucky...her family saw and grist mill escaped too because it was outside the village...that’s still there today...
We went there for the 200th anniversary...
The eminent author and historian Pierre Berton in the preface to his novel 1813 mentioned how 300 British troops who marched from New Brunswick to Kingston, ON possibly changed the course of the war. From Sackett’s Harbour, NY, the Americans were planning an attack on Kingston 45km north. A successful attack would have the effect of severing the British supply lines between Montreal and York.
Although it was only 300 troops the Americans understood it to be a massive force so they changed their target to York.
