Golden Horde: The Air Force’s Plan For Networked Bombs

Imagine this scenario: A U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor pilot races toward a target on the ground and when within striking distance, drops a pair of GPS-guided precision bombs. As the bombs fall from the sky, they themselves notice another, higher-priority target elsewhere on the ground. While one of the bombs stays on course, the second adjusts its trajectory, aiming directly at the second, higher-priority target. Both bombs hit their marks — and all the F-22 pilot had to do was fly them out and release them.

I hope these bombs aren't racist or transphobic, and that most of all that they take into account the intersectional nature of today's new Air Force.

I can’t imagine a situation where weapons will be allowed to select their own targets. The lawyers simply won’t allow that much discretion given to autonomous weapons. Sounds like a sales pitch from a marketing department.

Nah, Googletwitteramazonapple will censor the pilot for following orders from a bigoted General. Then they’ll notify the intended targets so they (the intended targets) can launch a preemptive strike on the US base of operations.

The responsible party would be whoever manages the target list. No different than pulling an item off a queue.

Networked bombs that can be remotely controlled & steered to a target. What could possibly go wrong? We already have evidence that a hacked datalink may have been responsible for a US reconnaissance drone landing in Iran a few years back.

I’ve got bad news for you - we’re already there.

What this rather dubious blog is reporting is nothing new.
