Flight cancellations, delays triggered by deep clean at FAA Jacksonville control center - VIRUS ALERT
Florida Times Union ^ | 01/04/21 | Florida Times Union

For those who are interested.....I monitor and track airplanes that fly over North Florida where I live, Civilian Passenger Planes, Military Planes and Private Aircraft, using a Raspberry Pi, ADS-B software from Flightaware.com, it's a hobby...

Yesterday during a very busy day, all the traffic I was tracking just dropped off to almost nothing, I was convinced it was my equipment and started to investigate, changing cables, rebooting the Raspberry Pi, etc....nothing worked.

I went on the Flightware Discussion boards looking for a solution and ran into an article just posted by someone else from Jacksonville who was reporting the smae issue only he posted an article that the NE Florida ATC center went offline because a single positive test of Covid-19 by working, resulting in a shutdown of the 7th largest ATC in the USA, all the planes into and out of their control zone had to be rerouted, flights were delayed and traffic dropped to zero....

If ONE Covid-19 Case can take down the 7th largest ATC center in the USA and create chaos for a few hours, imagine what a coordinated attack on several of these facilities around the country could do to cripple air traffic.....

Just something to think about...

Hilliard to be exact, it covers all of NE Florida all the way to Alabama and south to Orlando and parts of SE Georgia...

I was tracking over 80 planes at the time and it dropped off to less than 10 in a matter of a couple of minutes..

I spent half a day there back in late 2004.
I had just completed my USAF enlistment, and was thinking of becoming an ATC.
I’m glad I went to university instead.

I assume by ‘working’, it was an employee?

I thought I heard on OAN that DFW basically shut down because one Controller tested positive. I could be wrong; maybe they were talking about Jacksonville.

From some of the information I’ve found, Jacksonville hasn’t been the only ATC center that has gone offline because of Covid...

Ridiculous. Once again shutting down the entire country for something with a 99.6% survival rate.

Thumbs up.

Although, if Antifa BLM declared they were coming to Jax, they’d probably be sure to let them in. Or, if they declared they would riot around the airport, Jax and FAA would just stay open, no concern.

Thanks for the picture, just imagine headaches caused by one person getting sick, it affected a ton of flights.

Well, we didn’t have to imagine it — it actually happened, right? Sheer madness. This Covid insanity must end.

Worse than that, CDC just release a study that COVID has a very short life on surfaces.

Never underestimate the stupidity of mankind/womenkind (ha, ha).

Exactly.

The democRATS have scared the crap out of the entire country with their corona virus and covid fear-mongering.

You'd have a better chance of dying from the common cold.
