A bill proposed in the New York State Assembly by Assemblymember Linda B. Rosenthal (D/WF-Manhattan) would make the COVID-19 mandatory in “certain situations.”
The proposed bill, which can be found online here, states once vaccine distribution begins if New Yorkers are not developing sufficient immunity from COVID-19 the vaccine would be mandatory for those who can safely receive it.
The vast majority of New Yorkers will most likely not receive a vaccine until the end of the spring or early summer of 2021.
However, Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal introduced a bill that would require the state to start planning how to mandate New Yorkers take the COVID-19 vaccine, if a certain herd immunity is not reached.
“I want to caution, it (the bill) doesn’t say that someone is going to come to your house in the middle of the night and stick a needle in your arm with a COVID vaccine,” Assemblywoman Rosenthal explained. “It actually says that if the state does not reach herd immunity.”
Rosenthal released a statement Wednesday which said:
“I introduced this legislation because like all of us, I have seen too many families ravaged by COVID-19. I have lost loved ones and friends and have seen too many people become sick and die from a disease that has wreaked havoc on every aspect of our lives for nearly a year. Now, as we get closer to the day when a lifesaving vaccine will finally be widely available to the American public, I am hearing a concerning uptick in dangerous anti-science, anti-vax rhetoric that has the potential to endanger our health, damage our economy and delay our return to normalcy.
If enough science deniers opt out of the voluntary vaccine process, we will not achieve the necessary level of community immunity, which will undermine the efficacy of our vaccination efforts statewide. Obviously, our hope is that with robust education and outreach, the vast majority of New Yorkers will volunteer to get vaccinated. If not, my new legislation will ensure that we achieve a safe level of community protection. Herd immunity won’t protect everyone, but if a high enough percentage of the population gets vaccinated, then the likelihood of community spread is low enough to enable a return to normal life, for students, parents, small businesses – everyone, who has been struggling to stay afloat financially and emotionally for the last nine months. Our heroic medical professionals and support staff have been on the frontlines of this pandemic for too long. Achieving herd immunity will help lift the inordinate burden under which they have been toiling.”
However some New Yorkers are against forced vaccination, they didn’t express themself as an anti-vaxxers movement at all.
Actually, the protesters came from groups with different political views.
The protesters were BLM and MAGA activists who gathered outside Linda’s home and screamed NO FORCED VACCINE!

Of course from past history (Tuskegee experiment), US Army and LSD in the 40s, the ‘super lab’ in Frederick MD (Ft Detrick) etal some of these outlandish charges may turn out to be true...

But what about all those individuals who claim that the vaccine is racist and that THEY should get it first, before Whitey, because so many blacks got the disease?
I don’t expect it to make sense. The left has learned to gain sympathy from both sides of an issue.
When the “Celebrate Diversity!” bumper stickers were first making the scene, my reaction was adverse; that demanding everyone hyper-focus on our many differences would be divisive. Better, I thought, that if someone really wanted to speak out on the matter and encourage us to come together despite our differences, they would be asking us to “celebrate” unity! I’d not considered, at first, the true point of the admonition: to divide us against each other.
By late spring or early summer (has the Weather Channel started naming the change of seasons??) this current vaccine will be “last year’s flu vaccine, X2”. I wonder who is offering this legislator money to require use of a product or service.
THAT is a BIG DEAL, because typically the hospitals can make the vaccinations a mandatory job requirement.
Here, the NURSES HOLD THE POWER, because the hospitals can not simply dismiss or fire 50% of Nursing staff.

Construction worker acquaintance of mine says he had to get the shot in order to work on a hospital project. He told me a lot of his fellow workers walked off rather than get the shot.
