Buffalo, New York was a bustling hub of manufacturing seven decades ago. By the 90’s, most of the industry disappeared due to a combination of bad government and NAFTA. What was left of the middle class saw a flight to the suburbs leaving the city with a contrast of rich high-rises and poor neighborhoods. Today, Buffalo is a rusting city seated against the waters edge of Lake Erie troubled with crime and unemployment. The infrastructure is old, the industry is gone, and the people live out real American blues.

Before COVID-19 arrived, the Buffalo-Cheektowaga-Niagara Falls area saw unemployment swing between five and ten percent in the early 90s. Since the virus, unemployment spiked to nearly 20%. These numbers particularly hit the areas east of Buffalo’s Main Street, where 85% of the black population lives.

With high unemployment, drugs and crime enter to fill the void. Approximately one percent of residents in Buffalo will become the victim of violent crime, where the national median is four in 1,000.

The issues are numerous, but I’ll spare you the entire list. The people need help and the current leadership under the Democratic Party is unable to provide it. So, when will the solutions appear? Is there no appetite to do something different in these New York districts? If the 2020 election numbers are anything to go by, a political solution may be in the works.

Agreed. And the author doesn’t fully grasp Buffalo. Yes, there is the permanent democrat governing clique in Buffalo who spout all the leftist slogans, but one benefit of having become an economic and political backwater, is that most people in Buffalo avoid getting riled-up by manufactured racial politics. Only the worst purple-haired idiots have talked briefly about “defunding the police” and the black folks, like everyone, talks more about improving their lives. I believe many blacks here in the City did go for Trump. Certainly the white suburbs and countryside did.

Buffalo might be a better example of the politics of people just wanting to avoid extremist politics and wanting get on with their lives.

The black community needs to care more about it's victims than it's criminals.
