Can America Defeat China in a War in the 2020s?
https://genzconservative.com/can-america-defeat-china-in-a-war/ ^

We are still the world’s largest economy. We spend more on our military than the next ten nations combined, and that money buys some terrific weapons. Additionally, our soldiers are better motivated and far better trained than any in the PLA, a force of terror and intimidation.

But, they will take heavy losses, both in terms of personnel and equipment. So, if we want the answer to be “can America defeat China in a war?” to remain “yes,” then we need to make further investments in our military. We cannot be like the British Empire in World War I or II, where they had a small expeditionary force at first, and losing many troops would be disastrous.

America needs to invest in its shipyards to it can repair vessels quickly and build far more of them, both for cargo transportation and for fighting. We need to train more troops and expand both the Navy and Air Force; buying more submarines, destroyers, bombers, and fighter jets. We need to sell the best and most dollar-efficient equipment possible to Taiwan, Japan, India, Australia, and South Korea so that they can fight China too. Missile defense against both cruise and ballistic weapons must be expanded. And, of course, we need to improve our cyber-security and cyber weapons so that we can defeat China in the cyber realm.

"Even now our navy is reluctant to take our carriers through the Taiwan Strait or into the South China Sea due to their vulnerability."

I first noticed that a good many years ago.
Don't know when was the last time we sent a carrier through that straight, but am guessing it was several decades, not just years ago.

Floating aircraft carriers have always been vulnerable to land-based bombers, even in WWII, and steered clear whenever possible.

Nothing new about that.

You don’t fight a land war, you will lose unless you use nukes. You fight a air/sea battle with limited land engagements, similar to the island hoping campaign in the pacific in WWII. You also take the fight to the Chinese airbases with missiles. You can count on a massive cyber attack and we have to be ready and hit back. If you can get India involved you take a lot of pressure off the allied navies in the pacific. When China starts to starve you try to get riots started internally. You starve them and cut out their oil supplies.

IMO militarily - yes, politically we would be defeated.

If the military would be allowed to pursue it strengths it is a potent fighting force capable of defeating any foe.

A biden administration would use the think tank strategy devoid of leadership and full of consensus to make critical decisions. Unfortunately political dithering and artificial constraints put in the ROEs would cripple that capability. Most likely the constraints would be in the form of failure to recognize the threat in time to react and graduated escalation/response like in Viet Nam.

The bottom line, is the politicians will lose the war because they will us the military for signaling national resolve rather than winning the war with crushing power.

The Navy needs to immediately stop all contracts for Ford CVNs, LCS, DDG-1000s. Use all existing models as training or send to scrap. Reinvest in basic infrastructure and maintenance.

The Air Farce needs to stop the same way, F-35s are not survivable in a peer conflict and must remain far behind the front to guard AWACS and airfield assets. Needs to develop a comparable BRV missile to the Russians and Chinese were the AF is out ranged. The R-37M has hit targets out to 210 Nautical MILES carried by the modernized MiG-31BM interceptors and Su-35S and Su-57 multirole fighters.

We can lock them out of our tech and force them to pay for their own damned research. That literally is our one and only hope.

They have a massive corruption problem that will not be cured so long as the CCP rules by intimidation and fear. They are unfit to lead the world, and if they ever do it won’t be for long because they cannot run things sustainably and will collapse without tribute. You need the rest of the world to profit for tribute to work.

Our best chance is to stop feeding the beast. Stop buying their products, lock up the people who steal and give away our technology.

The rest of the world is in this pickle with us. Partner with them to root out the people who have been bought off by the CCP to sell the world out.

I’ve been saying for years the US needs to team up with Russia before Russia and China team up against us. Well, it’s too late.

Chinese arrogance will do them in. They have come to believe that Americans are a greedy race who are too cowardly to fight. We will roll over with any sign of violence. They may well be lured into a direct act that will lead to a grim and terrible war. Once angered American’s evil side will come out — China has its own inner problems to worry about. Lots of Chinese are not benefiting from the new wealth—many still hold to the Communist ideals of Mao. A rich mandarin class doesn’t fit with Marx or Mao.

“can America defeat China in a war?

Would you get into a fight with a neighbor with whom you are heavily invested in many of his companies and properties and are reliant on him for much of your food? I certainly wouldn't......

Short answer—NO. First Target—Hong Kong, then Taiwan. Next Target after that—Vietnam and Cambodia. Will Biden’s USA help Vietnam? Nope. Without Russian aid—they will be swept away in a tide of troops, planes, forces who will hit them with the severely of Nazis. No media to highlight their atrocities—the death count will be in the millions and Vietnam will be re-populated with Han Chinese. A new flood of Vietnamese will seek asylum in the USA—will we take them in? I doubt it—such an action would offend China—our new Masters.

Easy, blockade any of their shipping coming into America and suspend any food production from Chinese owned plants within America.
They are short on food and coal.

This is why they are building their new Silk Road infrastructure. This opens the west Asia and European markets without having to deal with our naval superiority.

That’s about 5-10 years from being in place.

China is already at war with us. It's the nature of the communist party, to be on a war footing with its greatest adversary.

The CCP is using Sun Tzu's maxim regarding the achievement of victory without bloodshed (i.e., without physical fighting on a battlefield). The 2020 election theft by the agents of the CCP (the Democrat Party and the Deep State) was a coup attempt. If it isn't stopped before Biden enters the WH, it will have been a successful coup.

The next step, if the coup is successful, will be the CCP's consolidation of its victory by eliminating remaining enemy elements that might stand in its way--particularly in the military and government.

When you take the advancements in aircraft and missiles the ides that your traditional shipyards will be free to build ships is somewhat far-fetched. The next war will be won by dominating space and the air and by submarines.

America would be much better served by building many hidden, distributed, underground manufacturing sites for aircraft, drones, missiles, and submarines. The US should also have a plan for rapidly moving the equipment and personnel of defense contractors to these sites.

I am sure that a lot of this has been done but combatants usually try to fight the last war first until they are force to use newer technologies or to invent them.

"What is new is the technology, hyper speed missiles and such."

Sure, there's always some unknown technology.
In WWII it was the super-advanced Japanese Zero fighter, took our guys many months to figure out how to deal with it.
Eventually our guys learned how to take advantage of our strengths and defeat their weaknesses -- really, that's what it's always all about.

So today we still hear rumors of all kinds of advanced stuff, and some of it may be real, some just smoke & mirrors.
We in the public won't know, can't know, which is which.
We can only assume (trust?) that our team getting billions & billions of tax-bucks to figure it all out, have done that, are still doing it.

They have to know the difference between real danger and bluffs, and occasionally perhaps call a bluff just to see how "real" it is.
They also have to be working on counter-measures -- for every threat there are counter-measures.
So long as we stay ahead, everyone is still safe.

The Chinese have always understood this:

You know the rest of that quote.

"A war with China would be absolutely insane, beyond hell on earth and would last forever, no way we could win against a country with a population of 1.5 BILLION I don’t care how much more advanced we are militarily."

History is full of smaller powers defeating larger ones - our own War of Independence from the British Empire is just one of them. I know that you are going to rebut with the something about the French Navy and the other conflicts the the British were fighting at the time. My counterpoint is that if there is a war between the US and China it is not likely that India, japan, Australia, the U.K. and other powers would sit it out. You have no idea of the animosity and hatred between Japan and China and India is not a fan of China either.

Carriers are not obsolete. However, they are out-ranged in the South China Sea, due to Obama allowing the Chinese to get a huge edge in Area Denial cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and hypersonic technology.

Only since Trump came in, are we attempting to close the gap. There will be no massive land war in re: to China/US.

It will be a Naval and Air battle in the South China Sea. Right now we will win, but it will be very costly. China will have a huge edge in Area Denial missiles until at least 2024-25.

The navy is just now getting online with the stealthy fuel tankers which will fill the gap and get our F18E/Fs and F35Cs within range.

I blame Obama and also the top echelon Navy planners for allowing this to happen. Right now, the Navy would have te rely on long range strategic strike and standoff bombers to deliver the shots that will knock out China’s surface Navy and key strategic bases in the SCS and in southern China.
