You Have A Higher Risk Of Dying From Coronavirus If You Are Poor

A new study makes a startling claim: You have a higher risk of dying from coronavirus if you are poor.

A New Study

People residing in Scotland’s poorest regions have a higher chance of dying from the novel coronavirus compared to those living in more affluent areas, according to a new study conducted by researchers at the University of Edinburgh and University of Glasgow.

Considered the first nationwide study of its kind and published in the journal The Lancet Regional Health—Europe, the research also discovered that patients from the most economically disadvantaged regions were more at risk of intensive care unit admission and that those less-funded hospitals were more likely to be at or over capacity.

“A number of factors could be driving this link between poverty and severe disease, including poor housing, increased use of public transport, and financial pressures to continue working,” lead researcher Dr. Nazir Lone, a senior clinical lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, said in a news release.

“The most deprived communities, and the hospitals that serve them, will need extra support as the pandemic continues.”

Ironically, America’s poor are so “poor” that includes obesity induced heart disease too.

Years ago I phrased the 4 Questions, questions that are typical to be asked by people who range from the very destitute to the wealth.

The poor and destitute ask: “How shall we eat?”

The food insecure, the poor ask: “When shall we eat?”

The prosperous ask: “What shall we eat?”

The rich ask: “Where shall we eat?”

When I say the poor tend to be obese, I’m not “blaming”. I’m just noticing reality. I have my own theories on it, but I agree that it is a lot of stuff.

I get dinged for making this generalization too, even though, generally speaking, it speaks to something very real:

Are the poor of low character because they are poor, or are they poor because they are of low character?

Yes, but if you are rich you are 10,000 more times likely than a poor person to die fro eating tainted caviar, so it all evens out in the end.

diabetes

Yep. I hear that is the most at-risk comorbidity group. And type two is what comes to mind. Actions have consequences.

You have a higher age-adjusted risk of dying of anything if you are poor.

Going way out on a limb here but aren’t your chances of expiring from a whole plethora of reasons greater when you’re poor?

About the homeless and their low rate of COVID. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that many are outdoors a lot, and they get that vitamin D from the sun?????

Sounds silly, I know.

I love to watch people. It has gotten me into trouble when the person I am watching is a pretty women😂. But, I try to analyze people and I noticed something interesting. Poor people eat poorly. That is because garbage is cheap. When I was young and a single father I was working poor, we ate a lot of hotdogs, ramen and Mac n cheese. Canned veggies and sometimes canned meat to have a meat on the plate. All that is really unhealthy food. When my daughter was out of State working, it became obvious she was not eating good. She was barely able to afford rent in Seattle so I sent her Omaha steak meals for four. That translated into a week or more of decent meals for her.

Poor people are poor for various reason, but of course woke people believe it is racism, ignoring the millions of working poor whites. Poor people only garner sympathy if they have no control over their circumstances. Doesn't mean I won't help, I am just not sympathetic to their plight. You smoke and lack funds for decent food, that is your problem. When I was poor, I worked my way out of it. White privileged my ass, my Black and Puerto Rican friends from the military helped me get back on my feet.

It stands to reason, poor eat poorly so they are more susceptible to illness and comorbidity like obesity and diabetes. Give them more money they will buy more garbage. Poor White or poor Black it makes no difference. It becomes a life style. Watch the people with an EBT card in the store, chips, soda, cookies, canned foods, hotdogs and other assorted garbage. Any wonder they have a higher rate of comorbidity.

Truth is found in layers. That the so-called coronavirus is associated with low income patients or places is superficial. I did my own study of census tracts and districts in Los Angeles County and sure enough the areas with low income Hispanics had higher virus death rates. But other low income Hispanic areas had low virus death rates. In further examination those areas with a high proportion of foreign born and are low income Hispanic, have the highest rates of virus deaths. What might make foreign born more susceptible to virus? Many foreign born are TB carriers and TB has the same symptoms as coronavirus and makes a person more vulnerable to the virus.
Read my study: Foreign Born and Nursing Home Patients Are Brunt of COVID-19 Deaths in LA County, California Globe, May 30, 2020.

A new study makes a startling claim: You have a higher risk of dying from coronavirus if you are poor.

And I always thought you have a higher risk of dying from coronavirus if you contracted the disease.

So I am not poor so my chances for survival have gone up. -Tom /S

What’s “startling” about that? You are more likely to die of many different things if you’re poor?
