State Farm cancelled my insurance on Dec 4. We got the notice this week. We suffered a fire and after dragging it our for 4 months, construction finally begun.
House is completely gutted for rebuilding and maybe 20% complete after 6 months. Their reason for cancellation is "messy" yard WHILE UNDER CONSTRUCTION.
Anyone ever experience anything like this and what can I do? What insurance company is going to insure me now with incomplete house under cnstruction.
“If it was just me, this would all be different. I got to work, take care of them and deal with A$$holes at State Farm. It gets tiresome.”
understood, but in the future look for somebody else other tha
n State Farm.
Last year.
No quibbling.
Superb service and prompt and helpful assistance and claim processing.
I had a claim with Mutual of Omaha a long time ago.
They refused to pay. I took it up with AZ dept of insurance and they discovered the policy was underwritten in AK.
AZ had no jurisdiction. Mutual ended up paying it but these insurance people are pretty damn crafty.
Good Luck.
This is disturbing since my home and auto are all under State Farm.
I hope you follow up with updates. Sorry that I can’t help.
I’ve had pretty good luck with AAA I have home and auto with them.
“Just messy. Not several times. Just once.”
You posted ‘more than once’.
Tennessee has law regulating cancellations. ‘Messy’ is not a reason for cancellations.
If you have Costco membership they have it too.

State Farm is right up there with the biggest thieves in the business. Ditto for Allstate and Farmers.
I switched to USAA as well. Best decision I made.
I've considered that... years ago my agent suggested I keep liability insurance on the house... said it was cheap. Also you have to have your mortgage paid off... As far as I got was to drop flood insurance on my other home. Each time I get close I think, 'this will be the year the hurricane hits'...and I send off my payment...
My brother was out of town visiting our Mom on Mother’s Day 2019 and came home late Sunday evening to find a water line had ruptured under the kitchen sink and ran for days. The kitchen was ruined cabinets, flooring, sub floor. Water ruined flooring and baseboard in the bedroom, dining room and living room. He contacted the insurance company and got a contract quote fairly quickly based on a suggestion from the adjuster and the contractor and adjuster knew one another.
Long story short the contractor would work two days and gone for five. My brother was being put up in a hotel until the work was done. My brother had been telling for months the adjuster the contractor, his buddy was costing the company a chunk of money by not completing the job and then staying in the hotel. Finally around Thanksgiving he told the adjuster he was first his contractor buddy and getting his house repaired. Oh no you can’t do that was the reply. He said if my house isn’t done in ten days he’s gone and we can fight this out in court and I can tell them how you pushed this contractor day one and he’s a walking clusterf$&k! He moved in December 12th.
I’ll let them know that
I do have a costco membership
Zurich/US Assure offers builders risk or course of construction policies for remodels. Contact an Independent Broker and they can help you. They even offer liability with the policy. Once the home is repaired you will have to convert to a regular homeowner as well. Your broker can help you. Good luck.
USAA took care of everything on the switch from farmers.
Farmers had the audacity to ask me why I left. Sent me a survey and on the first list of radio buttons had a “Farmers cancelled the Policy”.
End of survey.
They paid out 28g’s and cancelled me. Whatever
All that money went straight to the construction company.
I just had to cosign. problem gone.
Like a Good Neighbor, It isn’t State Farm .. 😀
I’ve had AMICA for home and auto for over 50 years. Have never had a problem.
Despite their butt-kissing of BLM, I'm still with USAA.
Thanks. That is worrisome to me. I see you recommended Liberty Mutual, others have said good things about Geico and one recommendation for an insurer who uses multiple carriers.
It sounds like a PITA but it looks like I need to do some shopping.
No its not
