We cannot take the Pac NW anymore. I am asking for suggestions for a nice place for a family to live in Texas. We are of modest means and would love a place to put down roots. We are thinking San Antonio area, but will defer to better advice. Thank you!

Are you armed? Patriotic?

Depends on work too.

I do not live in Texas, but did similar research. I would check the New Braunfels area. Small city with access to both San Antonio and Austin, if needed. Demographically ethnically German and Spanish (some intriguing festivals!). Less expensive than the big cities.

Anything between San Antonio and Austin is nice. Avoid Austin like the plague.

I would suggest places in Collin County, such as Allen, Parker, and Wylie. Also, Rockwall County seems nice. Otherwise, Tyler is worth a look.

If around Houston, Sugarland is the most conservative area there.

Can't really comment on TX directly as my only experiences in the Lone Star State were changes of planes (wb outbound, eb when returning home) at DFW on the same 1981 vacation.

All the big cities are pretty much Democrat now so check the county electoral map carefully. On my phone or I’d provide a link. Good luck!

Kerrville, Texas.

In the midst of the beautiful Texas Hill country, an hour from San Antonio and two hours from Austin. Kerrville has hospitals, including a VA hospital as well as a university.

It’s a clean and conservative small city.

Actually NW of Austin is very conservative. Georgetown, Leander, Cedar Park, Pflugerville.

You’ll be welcome here in Texas as long as you remember (and vote) the reason you left where you came from....

San Antonio was nice for the half day I spent downtown during Air Force Basic Training.

Depends upon whether you’re looking for the city life or the country life. Most places in central Texas are pricey as the influx of Californians are going there. The New York immigration seems to like the DFW area. A lot of true patriots settles in east/northeast Texas.

Fredericksburg is a real nice area in the hill country. The San Marcos/New Braunfels region is good too. SE of San Antonio you have Wilson County and it’s good too while giving access to San Antonio if you have to go there.

DFW Hou SAN Aus all are going to be cost prohibitive. San Marcos, WACO, and nTemple are my suggestions. I recently told my lovely wife I wanted to go back home to Texas and Waco is the tow I want to e close to...

San Antonio. Lackland AFB. Basic training. I don’t think so.

Depends on if you have to make a living here, and what you do for a living. I live near Bryan-College Station, but the some of the best areas are East Texas, but employment may be an issue there.

Dittos on the Austin San Antonio Corridor. Except for the fact this entire region is becoming one giant metropolis. If you don’t mind congestion then it’s a great move with affordable housing and good schools.
