After their feast on this date, it is said — though this excessive detail was undoubtedly concocted by generations of folklore — that a severed black bull’s head was plopped onto the table, to symbolize the imminent decapitation of the Douglas alpha males.† Then the Douglas lads were subjected to a mock trial as traitors and instantly dragged outside for beheading. That devious uncle James happily inherited as the seventh Earl of Douglas....

My mother’s grandfather was Andrew Ewart Harris from Kilmarnock, Scotland (Clan Campbell)

She had great grandparents born in Ireland...Campbell, Irvine, Hunter, McClimont (Clan Lamont)...

We were super surprised to take up my late aunt’s genealogy project ... with help of the Internet found most of our “English” ancestors were mostly Scottish. Surprising none of this was handed down in the family legends. Maybe some of it because there were several shady characters. (Most of them being English ;-)
