Thanksgiving is coming up soon. All over the nation, Americans are getting ready to thank God (hopefully) for the many blessings they have been giving. Despite being wracked by a pandemic and political divisiveness, not to mention the utter ridiculousness and blatant fraud of this election, we still live in the most prosperous nation on Earth. That’s worth celebrating and is why I think Americans of every background and stripe should celebrate Thanksgiving despite Covid.
Of course, not everyone feels the same way. Many of your governors, who view you as a peon and your rights as obstacles to their power rather than gifts to you from God, want to do away with Thanksgiving this year. Far from encouraging you to risk that ~99.7% survival rate and celebrate Thanksgiving despite Covid, they’re demanding that you instead continue to quarantine and remain at home. They don’t want you to be thankful and celebrate the many, many blessings you have as an American; they want you to be fearful and even more reliant on the government.

Thanksgiving should be an every day event.
We’re driving to Chicago to celebrate with our family. It will be quite large. The only time this virus impacts me is when I’m entering the doorway of “some” national retail chains, or flying (which is extremely rare.
The rest of the time it’s a non-event for me.
Oh, except I work from home and it’s saving me over $750 after tax dollars every month - in a place where that is more than most people’s mortgage payment. :)
The Left is acting as if it’s Ebola with a 90% fatality rate, not COVID with a 99+% survival rate. COVID has clearly been weaponized against the American people for “control” purposes ... and many others (used as an excuse for mail-in ballots to help steal the election, for one example).
We are having Thanksgiving at our house. Fortunately, we do not have the restrictions many states have (VA), but if we did, we’d be having Thanksgiving anyway.
I like Ric Grenell’s tweet about the funeral for his pet turkey .... clever, but the sad thing is, it’s reality in too many places.
“They” have been trying to kill off Thanksgiving for decades now. It is scary what most Zoomers have been indoctrinated in for history and political philosophy.
Happy Thanksgiving to GOD from foreverfree.
We never had any intention of NOT celebrating it.
If you’re in NYC you’d best make clear that your deceased turkey is not an Orthodox Jew—or you know the DeBlasio police will be at your door.
Buy a pastured turkey from the Amish .... definitely not an “Orthodox” turkey! But I do get your real/serious point.
I just did a little search about Jews & turkey - this was the first thing that came up - rather interesting, IMO:
Israelis Actually Eat More Turkey Than Anyone Else
But you won’t find whole roast turkey.

Ha. Hadn’t actually taken my own comment serious in that way, just reacting how DeBlasio has repeatedly gone after weddings, funerals, services, etc., in NYC’s one politically conservative Jewish community.
(And I am actually more a fan of lamb. I don’t know if sheep somehow have successfully thwarted “factory farming”, but I find it odd that we seem to need to ship it from NZ and the Aussies.)
Yes, there are people raising sheep that are not ‘factory farmed’. From what I’ve been seeing, you pretty much have to sign up for getting the meat on a subscription basis; however, if you search for grassfed lamb/mutton etc, you may find a local farm nearby that would sell it. The farms I have heard about are out west/midwest.
Here is one such farm:

There is a podcast called The Sustainable Dish (Diana Rodgers) - you can find interviews with people who are practicing regenerative farming & raising animals in a non-commercial way & that is where I saw an interview about Central Grazing Co.
Diana is also doing a movie called “Sacred Cow” - she is offering the movie for free viewing this week. Here’s a link to that if you’re interested (link for free signup film week Nov. 22-30):
All that is good. I grew up on a farm with sheep and several other species. But I am talking about a mass basis, so regular folks can afford it. I would think we’d have enough open ranch land for grazing them at scale as they do in NZ, but we don’t see it here. If we would stop all the expensive and highly polluting shipping from the other side of the planet, I would think that we could compensate for some higher local production costa. But we never see it.
I am for more local production of justvabout everything at this point, including a diversity of foodstuffs!
Americans better celebrate Thanksgiving this year because we won’t have one for the next 4 years.
Have the Florida relatives here. Didn’t realize how bad remote schooling was until this morning .
I am saving a nice chunk staying home too. The more I work from home though, the less I want to go back to the traditional office. I am way more productive and it’s easier to avoid coworkers you don’t like.
When the WFH ends, I’ll be retiring. I was going to retire earlier this year, but I didn’t want to slaughter this cash cow. I”m also saving a three hour commute every day and I don’t “come home exhuasted. My shift ends, and I’m off to the stuff I need to do here at the homestead, refreshed. :)
Preach it.
Sounds like a great idea.
There is no reason this country can’t provide everything it’s citizens want to buy and usually get from overseas.
Yup, what you save in work clothes, and gas and vehicle maintenance alone is substantial.
There are some bright sides to this virus and lockdowns. Companies are learning they can have employees work from home with the occasional check in at the office, and homeschooling is skyrocketing, which means fewer kids being indoctrinated and bullied in the public school system.
