Couldn’t be better assignments - let Breyer and Sotomayor handle New England, NY and NJ; WI, MI, GA and PA are covered by the court conservatives, Kagan has AZ and NV which are prob. less contestable.
“Elena Kagan, Associate Justice (Alaska, Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Nevada, Northern Mariana Islands, Washington)”
Thw woman from the Pale of Settlement who lived her whole life in New York City is representative of the judicial attitudes of Montana and Arizona?
Hilarious.
Georgia - Thomas
Michigan - Kavanaugh
Wisconsin - Barrett
Pennsylvania - Alito
Nevada - Kagan
Arizona - Kagan
yes
Hell, meet hand basket....
What were the assignments prior to this?
Why does Roberts get 3 circuits and the senior justice(Thomas) only gets 1?
Alito for PA, Kavanaugh for MI and Barrett for WI. At least we know that these cases will be accepted or rejected according to the objective standards of the law.
I guess that the DS forgot to remind Roberts how to assign Circuits...or maybe the blackmail is only for votes on cases?
This is standard when a new justice joins the Court. And it’s also standard for a justice to refer requests from his circuit to the entire court on significant cases where he or she knows the Court is going to be divided. That’s because the rules allow petitioners that are denied by one justice to petition others. And if it IS granted, the losing side can petition the full court to vacate that justice’s stay. By referring it to the whole court, a justice avoids this pointless waste of time and associated drama.
The bottom line is that one shouldn’t read anything into this move or expect too much from the fact that a justice is assigned to a certain circuit. It matters, but not that much.
Love the assignments. If I’m not mistaken, Thomas has always had jurisdiction over Georgia. I remember Kennedy had jurisdiction over Florida during Bush v Gore and he shut the mess down unilaterally!
Continue in prayer with Thanksgiving! Victory is ours!
I have a warm feeling knowing Thomas has my state of Florida.
